UN Security Council Resolution 2720 (2023) mandates the establishment of a mechanism “for accelerating the provision of humanitarian relief consignments to Gaza through states which are not party to the conflict, consulting all relevant parties, with the goal of expediting, streamlining, and accelerating the process of providing assistance.” The United Nations 2720 Mechanism for Gaza will be built to include all the commodities – humanitarian and commercial – that are necessary to ensure effective response to the needs of 2.2 million residents of Gaza (throughout the Strip), encompassing humanitarian, reconstruction, and early recovery needs.
Reporting to the Senior Project Manager, the Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating the work of the 2720 Mechanism within their respective Area of Responsibility (AoR)
Education:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent preferably in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Business or any other related field.
- A first-level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and extensive experience related to the nature of the position may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
- A Technical/Professional Diploma in combination with an additional 4 years (9 in total) relevant, international and national experience OR
- Secondary Diploma in combination with an additional 6 years’ (11 in total) relevant, international and national experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in humanitarian affairs, coordination, logistics, maritime affairs, law enforcement, security management or a related field.
- At least two (02) years of the total experience in the management of teams in an international context is required.
- Previous experience of at least one (01) year in a post-conflict or multi-cultural environment is required.
- Previous experience in liaising with Member States and donors is required.
- Previous UN, humanitarian or multilateral experience is prefered.
- Previous experience in briefing senior UN leaders and Member States on a humanitarian context is preferred.
- Previous experience in coordinating complex operations in conflict or post-conflict zones is preferred.
- Previous experience in coordinating cross-border operations in an international or humanitarian context is highly desirable.
- international humanitarian or UN experience in the Middle East is desirable.
Language :
Fluency in written and oral English.
Knowledge of Arabic is an asset.
