POSITION SUMMARY – This position is based in Arlington, VA
Amid growing consensus that the protection, restoration, and improved management of ecosystems can provide at least 30% of the climate mitigation needed to limit warming to 1.5°C, Conservation International (CI) has set ambitious targets to realize the potential of natural climate solutions (NCS) worldwide.
The Coordinator position is responsible for supporting the Corporate Climate Solutions Team (CCS) within CI’s Center for Natural Climate Solutions. The CCS team works to accelerate business investment in NCS, coordinate CI’s portfolio of partner NCS commitments, guide business climate strategy, and steward NCS-focused corporate relationships. The position reports to the Manager, Corporate Climate Solutions.
The Coordinator provides support to the Center for Natural Climate Solutions with implementation of CI’s Principles for Investment in Natural Climate Solutions. The position manages research and provides support to the Corporate Climate Solutions team with information management related to the implementation of the Principles and CI’s NCS-focused corporate engagements. The position also supports CI’s internal sustainability initiative, including greenhouse gas data collection and related communication.
This position does not directly supervise staff but will manage and ensure the confidentiality of corporate partner-related information. This is a two-year position with the potential to extend.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Compile corporate research reports using public environmental, social, and governance (ESG) information, to evaluate CI’s corporate NCS-focused partnerships against CI’s Principles for Investment in NCS and integrate information with CI’s due diligence analysis.
- Manage corporate information entry into CI’s impact tracking and contact management databases, to support corporate partnership impact reporting.
- Support data collection and communication efforts related to measuring and reporting on CI’s greenhouse gas footprint and internal climate action plan.
- Serve as a liaison with CI’s operation, finance and other divisions implementing activities related to internal decarbonization work.
- Provide support to the CCS team as directed in administrative tasks related to multiple CCS team’s workstream, such as NCS Principles, Climate Positive, corporate relationship management and insetting, including but not limited to developing and maintaining team knowledge systems, scheduling and logistics planning and execution of meetings.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Typical office environment.
- Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate time differences with field programs may be necessary.
- Occasional travel may be required to support corporate partnership leads.
- Hybrid work schedule: 2 days a week in CI’s Arlington Office.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- 2-4 years of experience working in international development, business sustainability, or advocacy arena.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Solid attention to detail and strong research, analysis, and proofreading abilities.
- Highly developed ability to synthesize and communicate information to a variety of audiences.
- MS Office suite fluency with strong knowledge of Excel, SharePoint, and other collaboration office tools.
- Service-oriented and proven ability to perform courteously and tactfully in a team environment.
- Ability to work under general supervision and take initiative to solve problems under the supervisor’s direction.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (environmental studies, business and sustainability, international relations, or development, etc.).
- Friendly and diplomatic demeanor and appreciation for multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work environment.
- Experience in research of private sector players and development of synthesized memos.
- Experience of work in Excel, preferably building data models and conducting analysis.
- Experience handling confidential partner information and financial records.
- Working knowledge of French, Chinese (Mandarin), Indonesian, Spanish, or Portuguese is a plus.
