In support of the University mission, the Office of International Programs strives to strengthen international education at the University as well as in the Charlotte community. On campus, OIP seeks to make international understanding and global awareness a fundamental part of the curriculum and an integral part of campus programming. OIP was established at UNC Charlotte in 1975.

Primary Purpose of Position

The Coordinator for Global Education and Engagement works closely with the Director of Global Education and Engagement (OGEE) as well as with the staff team within the OIP units to support the expansion of global learning at UNC Charlotte. This position encompasses a unique combination of responsibilities including, but not limited to, program development, classroom teaching, assessment, administrative duties, and outreach activities.

Summary of Position Responsibilities

Global Education and Engagement Programming Execution:

 

  • In collaboration with the OGEE director, Identify, design, and implement new international initiatives to strengthen a student-centered approach to campus internationalization for credit and extra-curricular option
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate—in collaboration with appropriate UNC Charlotte departments—global education and engagement programs (e.g., International Speaker Series, Great Decisions program, International Career Panel, International Education Week, International Festival, International Women’s Day, Country Culture Workshop, and other programs.)
  • Co-chair the UNC Charlotte International Festival, the longest-standing cultural tradition at the University with over 20,000 attendees
  • Assist with the implementation of campus visits by international delegations, guests, and educators
  • Provide direct support to the OGEE Director for implementation of the Global Gateways co-curricular program.
  • Support and Contribute to the fundamentals of ongoing staff professional development and training (e.g., staff retreats, in-service training, etc.)
  • In collaboration with the OIP administration, coordinate the summer SOAR (orientation) program
  • In collaboration with the OGEE Director, administer the budget associated with OGEE programs

Internationalization Liaison to Faculty:

  • Partner with faculty for global engagement programming including hosting international faculty, coordinating classroom presentation programs, speakers, etc.
  • Liaison with faculty and members of Student Affairs to represent OIP in student engagement efforts
  • Through outreach and partnership with faculty, oversee the Great Decisions (GD) program as the GD State Coordinator for North Carolina and organize, promote, and implement the GD Lecture Series for UNC Charlotte

Teaching Responsibilities:

  • When needed serve as instructor for a minimum of one section of the International Enrichment Seminar course, a 3-credit unit class included as part of the University College first-year seminar courses

Campus Internationalization Assessment Measures Implementation:

  • Assist the OGEE Director with qualitative and quantitative assessment
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data analysis for global education and engagement

As a member of the Office of International Programs, the incumbent is accountable for:

  • Manifesting the Mission, Vision, and Values of the University
  • Initiating programs and services that promote intercultural exchange, knowledge, and understanding within and between the U.S domestic and international communities
  • Assisting in developing programs through which UNC Charlotte and the community can benefit from the presence of international students and scholars
  • Identifying problems, making recommendations, implementing solutions, and evaluating outcomes for programs/services
  • Developing cohesive programming that supports the needs of various constituent groups—within the Office of International Programs, the University, and the Charlotte community
  • Recognizing and celebrating the achievements and contributions of all students

 

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in international relations, global studies, international education, higher education administration, or a closely related field required 
  • At least two years of professional work experience in international education, preferably at an institution of higher education 
  • Knowledge of program development and assessment methods 
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills including cross-cultural communication competencies 
  • Background in educational programming 
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as in a cooperative and collaborative manner 
  • Strong presentation and computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Prezi, etc.)

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Experience with web page management and social media marketing tools (i.e., Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, etc.)
  • Proficiency in Canvas or similar platforms or related online class instructional platforms (e.g., Blackboard)
  • Affiliation with NAFSA: Association of International Educators or other prominent international education association
  • Experience working, living, or studying abroad
  • Experience teaching at the post-secondary education level, preferably at a four-year college/university
