Position Summary Information

Advertisement St. Catherine University invite applications for a Coordinator for International Student Services position.
This position’s primary responsibility is the development, implementation and coordination of support and retention programs for international students, as well as creating global partnerships between the University and partnering agencies and international colleges and universities. This person is also the main Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) for the University, providing advising on personal, social, visa-related, vocational, and academic matters. This position also works to coordinate and educate other university personnel on these matters.
Working within the Center for Intercultural Development and reporting to the Director, the person in this position closely collaborates with the Office of Student Affairs, Admissions, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Global Studies, and more. This includes, but is not limited to: admissions process assistance (e.g. compliance, visa, documentation, arrival process) of international students, care management, and programmatic planning, execution, and assessment. This position also assists with the development and execution of the J-1 program (international student exchange) by serving as the Responsible Officer (RO) for J-1.
Responsibilities include:

  • Develop, plan, and implement programmatic initiatives for and with international and exchange students, as well as, exchange visitors. Assist, support, plan, and implement department Pillar Initiatives, including, Identity-Based Programmatic Initiatives, Speaker Series, 5th Week Check-in, Twin Cities Immersion Experiences, Social Justice Leadership Retreat, Celebrations of Achievement, and additional academic and belonging programming
  • Develop, plan, and implement International Student Orientation events and activities and an overall strategic programmatic plan that supports the effective matriculation, orientation, retention, and graduation of international and exchange students
  • Work with students one-on-one to support, problem solve, and refer to encourage continuation of their degree attainment
  • Collaborate with campus partners to co-sponsor events, including signature events
  • Serve as the DHS PDSO and RO for the university for the F-1 and J-1 programs, advising, and counseling international students on F-1 and J-1 visa regulations and processes
  • Updates and maintains the DHS Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) for active F-1 and J-1 students and coordinates institutional compliance actions and reporting. Maintains accurate records
  • Perform administrative responsibilities that include managing personnel job descriptions, creating university-wide policies for international students and exchange visitors, protocol and policy revisions, and purchasing card reconciliation, and more
  • Ensure all purchases are in alignment with university and departmental policies and protocols
  • Maintain compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies
  • Ensure all mandated document processing is done with a high degree of accuracy, ensuring smooth processing
  • Represent the university at internal and external stakeholder functions
  • Maintain effective collaboration with Admissions, Access & Success, Information Technology, Campus Life, Financial Aid, and additional critical offices to international student success.
  • Liaise with Admissions regarding international student paperwork required for enrollment
  • Establish partnerships across campus to ensure staff and faculty receive formal and informal training to best support international students
  • Serve on university committees to assist in policy decisions pertaining to international students
  • Actively participate in Division of Student Affairs collaboration initiatives
  • Provide research and support in decision making for admissions process of international students
  • Manage the I-20 process, communication, and support services for newly admitted international students
  • Recruit, train, and effectively supervise student staff operations and programmatic interns
  • In collaboration with the student interns, manage marketing, communications, and operations components of the Center for Intercultural Development

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Valid US passport. The Department of Homeland Security requires a valid US passport for any individual serving as a Principal Designated School Official (PDSO)
  • One year of experience in international student advising, international student programming, or international education
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and social justice
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • Demonstrated student programming and/or group facilitation skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a PDSO or DSO, and/or RO/ARO, and knowledge of current immigration regulations affecting international students
  • Familiarity with F-1 federal immigration regulations
