Position Summary
Position is responsible for developing and maintaining relationships with community healthcare providers to increase referrals, market share and revenue to the Siteman Cancer Center associated with cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment. Responsible for understanding the physician referral practices to medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology and bone marrow transplantation for the 500-mile service area covered by the Siteman Cancer Center. This position is part of the marketing, communications and physician services team at the Siteman Cancer Center.
About Siteman Cancer Center: Siteman Cancer Center, ranked among the top cancer treatment centers by U.S. News & World Report, is one of only a few cancer centers to receive the highest rating of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) – “exceptional.” Comprising the cancer research, prevention and treatment programs of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Siteman treats adults at six locations and partners with Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in the treatment of pediatric patients. Siteman is the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Missouri and Southern Illinois and is the region’s only member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network. Through the Siteman Cancer Network, Siteman Cancer Center works with regional medical centers to improve the health and well-being of people and communities by expanding access to cancer prevention and control strategies, clinical studies and genomic and genetic testing, all aimed at reducing the burden of cancer.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides relationship building activities through sales calls, physician education, faculty outreach visits, phone contacts and electronic communication to key referring physicians, nurses and hospitals.  Using consultative selling skills, engages with community physicians and staff to determine needs and identify opportunities. Through this work, promotes the Patient Care Coordination Center as the central call center and a funnel for top customer service and access to Washington University Physicians.
  • Maintains market intelligence within a regional territory area with a keen eye to program growth opportunities for the Siteman Cancer Center. Territory to include satellite locations, Siteman Cancer Network partners, BJC Collaborative hospitals and other community relationships.  
  • Develops and implements a territory plan to strengthen current referring physician relationships to the Siteman Cancer Center and the Washington University Physicians. Proactively pursues development of new physician referring relationships in targeted markets, both locally and regionally. Implements plan to ensure ongoing contact is achieved with current/new referring providers. 
  • Facilitates relationship development between referring physicians and Siteman Cancer Center program priorities through a number of means including virtual options for all programs including key development in a number of programs including:, i.e. Stem Cell Transplant and Cellular Therapy Program, Brain Tumor Center, the Proton Center and radiation oncology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, clinical trials, pediatric oncology and prevention programs. 
  • Coordinator will be responsible for driving business to the Siteman Cancer Center’s Patient Care Coordination Center. Justifies impact of role through measurement of new referring physician volume and revenue production. Coordinator responsible for maintaining sales activity in our PRM, Salesforce and meeting report deadlines.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with ability to regularly travel.
  • Travel/Sales Activity to encompass 80% of the normal work week. 
  • Valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle for transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hospital and physician practice environment, as well as a broad understanding of the regional healthcare landscape. 
  • Capabilities in negotiation, diplomacy and must develop a favorable rapport with individuals at every level of the organization. 
  • General knowledge of the medical/professional reimbursement. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, as well as, Salesforce or other CRM experience. 
  • Ability to efficiently and effectively manage a large territory and multiple tasks. 
  • Possesses outstanding interpersonal skills. 
  • Highly motivated and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. 
  • Works closely with the Associate Director, Physician Services and Business Development to discuss marketing activities, identify new business, relay field intel and bring forward new opportunities. 
  • Ability to problem solve and be politically astute. 
  • Possesses a strong ability to learn, analyze, understand and covey complex information.
  • Proven ability to prioritize opportunities and achieve business growth.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business or other health-care-related field with one to three previous years’ experience in a health care setting.

Salary Range
$66,700.00 – $103,400.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
