Overview:GitHub is looking for a communications expert to join the Corporate Comms team to lead EMEA communications.The overall goal of the Communications Manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), will be to coordinate all public relations activities across the region and develop a comprehensive PR and communications plan including strategy, goals, budget and tactics. This individual contributor role will also be in charge of developing media relations strategy across the markets, partnering with local PR agencies and US and APAC Corporate Comms teams, seeking high-level placements in print, broadcast and digital media. This person will also support a wide range of existing communications activities—across Internal Communications, Analyst Relations, Customer Evidence, Content, and Social Media teams—and also have the opportunity to build and manage dedicated programs.The Communications Manager will have a good understanding of the market dynamics and media landscape across EMEA and will be responsible for driving proactive storytelling; partnering with the local engineering, marketing and sales teams to drive and support local campaigns; executing event PR programs including local PR events and flagship global corporate events; engaging with regional PR agencies.The right person for this role thrives in a fast paced environment and enjoys that every day is different. - Lead EMEA public relations strategy, including vendor/agency management and budget oversight.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on key regional events and communications strategies for product, engineering, security, and policy topics.
Communication Strategy & Messaging
- Develop and execute PR strategies with minimal oversight, ensuring consistency across channels and audiences.
- Leverage data to craft stories that enhance GitHub’s reputation and address issues proactively.
Execution & Stakeholder Management
- Create communication materials (e.g., briefing documents, decks) for initiatives, ensuring alignment with broader strategies.
- Manage stakeholder relationships, embedding diversity and inclusion in all communications.
Reputation & Impact
- Identify opportunities to enhance GitHub’s reputation, addressing risks and ensuring messages align with company values.
- Track communications impact using KPIs and adjust strategies based on data insights.
Executive & Internal Communications
- Prepare executives for external engagements and manage leadership communications.
- Support internal communications, aligning messaging with company policies and external guidance.
Oversee EMEA public relations strategy and executionManage regional vendors/PR agencies in the EMEAManage EMEA PR budgetCollaborate with communications team and cross functional stakeholders on strategy around key regional events and press activationsProactively anticipate, identify, and resolve issues quickly and efficiently to ensure positive brand positioningAssist in writing/localising/PR strategy on a variety of complex and technical topics, including product, engineering, security, and policy communications as neededQualifications:Required/Minimum Qualifications:
- Many years of experience in internal communications, executive communications, public relations (in-house or agency), or related field
- o OR Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field AND some experience in internal communications, executive communications, public relations (in-house or agency), or related field
- o OR Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or related field AND experience in internal communications, executive communications, public relations (in-house or agency), or related field
- o OR equivalent experience
- Proven experience in tech PR, including media relations, crisis communication, storytelling, product launches, vendor management, and engagement with open source communities
- Expertise in developing and executing strategic communication plans in collaboration with internal teams and stakeholders
- Strong background in working with tech, business, and trade media outlets
- Ability to travel across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and the US to support media activities
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organization and project management skills, and excellent attention to detail
- Deep understanding of/with GitHub and/or software development landscape
- Background in working with tech policy, open source communities, and/or software developers
- In addition to English, working proficiency in languages such as French, German, and/or Spanish
