Position Summary: The Fellow, Corporate Low-Carbon Transition Planning will serve as an expert on corporate low-carbon transition planning and implementation strategies including transition and credibility guidance, low-carbon/net-zero target setting, metrics, carbon footprint development, and key emission reduction technologies and strategies. The Fellow will also help to convene companies to understand how they are developing credible transition plans, identify best practices, and identify interdependencies and roadblocks to inform policy priorities to encourage corporate climate action.

Responsibilities?and Duties:

  • Support the development of comprehensive and credible corporate low-carbon transition plans, including:
  • Conduct company and stakeholder outreach and engagement.
  • Convene meetings and workshops and facilitate dialogue among companies across sectors to share best practices in developing corporate low-carbon transition plans.
  • Develop meeting agendas, oversee meeting logistics, organize external speakers.
  • Conduct and oversee primary research (i.e., individual interviews with companies) and secondary research on how companies are developing their low-carbon transition plans.
  • Road test existing and proposed guidance on low-carbon transition plans from different NGOs and stakeholder groups with companies.
  • Engage relevant NGOs and other stakeholder groups on new insights and project findings to build knowledge across the stakeholder community.
  • Assist with development of reports, policy briefs, blog posts, and other publications.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on corporate low-carbon transition planning, credibility guidance, implementation strategies, and metrics.
  • Represent C2ES in conferences, meetings, and other forums, and in interactions with stakeholders from government, business, and civil society, as appropriate.
  • Develop presentations, talking points for senior leadership,?webpages?and?other?online materials on corporate carbon transition plans, corporate climate goals, and climate-related financial disclosure.
  • Support C2ES events, including workshops and meetings involving the Business Environmental Leadership Council (BELC), NGOs, government agencies, media groups, and/or academic?institutions.
  • Manage or support additional projects as needed.

  • All staff are expected to participate in monthly DEI All staff meetings. During these meetings staff are able to interact and learn about different topics.
  • Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Complete company training assigned during on boarding and on a yearly basis.
  • Some US travel required, up to?15 percent.?

Qualifications and skills:

  • Expertise in corporate guidance and standards for transition planning, target setting, sustainability/ESG and corporate greenhouse gas accounting — SBTi, GHG Protocol, TCFD, GFANZ, TPT, ISSB, CSRD, etc.
  • Experience working with companies to develop and implement their climate initiatives (e.g., calculating their carbon footprint, developing climate and sustainability goals, developing and implementing sustainability/carbon reduction/renewable energy strategies).
  • Good understanding of market-based approaches to reducing corporate greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Good networks and connections across companies and NGOs in the corporate climate and sustainability field.
  • Excellent outreach, interviewing, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize among and efficiently manage multiple assignments, work independently, and meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Team player – flexibility, ability to work collaboratively, and a willingness to pitch in at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 4-7 years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience. Degrees in sustainability management, economics, public policy, or
    related fields.

Employment Status: Two (2) year appointment, with the possibility of extension subject to available resources; benefits-eligible; exempt from overtime.

 

Starting Salary: $76,000 to $95,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

 

Reporting to: Director, Corporate Low-Carbon Transition Planning.

 

Travel, Time & Location Requirements: Location may be in the Washington, DC area or remote; if remote, physical presence in the main office is expected at least 5 weeks per year. Moderate travel expected for workshops and conferences. While not a requirement, preference will be given to candidates that have the right to work in the United States.
