Job Description (Roles and Responsibilities)
Main purpose of internship
To provide administrative and operational support to the Corporate Services function, assisting with the effective organisation of information, documentation, and processes. Exposure to corporate services functions including HR, Finance, Estates, and wider corporate activities. Working directly to the Head of Corporate Services, the role will support the delivery of key priorities through accurate record-keeping, document management, and the preparation of materials, contributing to efficient day-to-day operations. Support the maintenance of tracking tools and registers to ensure accurate and up-to-date records.
Roles and responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Corporate Services and identified colleagues to implement internal audit outcomes and best practice protocols.
- Provide general administrative support to the Corporate Services team, including filing, document management, and maintaining organised electronic records.
- Assist with the sorting, naming, and archiving of digital files to ensure compliance with corporate record management standards.
- Support the preparation and formatting of presentations, reports, and briefing materials using Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
- Input, update and maintain data accurately in spreadsheets and tracking tools, ensuring consistency and attention to detail.
- Support the review and updating of internal guidance documents, policies, and templates in line with instructions provided.
- Assist with basic data analysis and compilation of information to support decision-making and reporting.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for meetings, including preparing documents, taking notes where required, and following up on actions.
- Undertake ad hoc administrative tasks as required to support business priorities.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint (this will be assessed).
- Comfortable working with digital systems, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and processes.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately with data and documents.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple administrative tasks effectively.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Proactive and willing to take initiative within a structured and supervised environment.
- Ability to handle information sensitively and maintain confidentiality where required.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Team player.

Applicants must have the legal status to live and work in Barbados in their own right, from time of application.
Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g. some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
Appointable candidates who were unsuccessful may be placed on a ‘reserve list. If during the reserve period of 6 months the same or largely similar role becomes available, that role may be offered to the second of subsequent candidate.

This is a temporary internship position running from appointment date until 31 March 2027. The role is designed as an entry-level opportunity but is suitable for candidates at any stage of their career seeking administrative and corporate services experience.

Working Hours
The role is in-person and requires flexibility within a 38-hour work week (including breaks). Time off in lieu (TOIL) or overtime will be granted for hours worked beyond 38.
