Are you interested in playing a key role in Solihull Council’s response to the climate
emergency?

We have an exciting opportunity to join our climate change and sustainability team making a
real difference to how we transition to being a more sustainable council and borough.

About the role:

Solihull Council aims to be net zero in our own operations by 2030, in this role you will be
instrumental in delivering this aim and supporting the Council in its mission to become more
sustainable.

The Council is already making great progress in reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions, but
we know we need to do more to meet our 2030 target. As Corporate Sustainability Coordinator,
you will help us do this using your analytical and report writing skills to lead on the Net
Zero Carbon Council Plan, including measurement, modelling and reporting of the council’s own
greenhouse gas emissions.

Within this varied role you will have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of
sustainability activities, including leading our response to external benchmarking, working
across departments to support directorate Sustainability Plans, leading action on issues such
as single use plastics, fair trade and colleague training and awareness.

You will also be involved in strategic actions, such as contributing to Solihull’s Climate
Change Prospectus, which is a road map of all the Council’s sustainability action and working
with other members of the Climate Change and Sustainability team to develop the Council’s
approach to climate change adaptation and sequestration.

About you:

You will

  • Share our passion about sustainability.
  • Have experience of leading and delivering climate change and sustainability actions and
have a good knowledge of sustainability that you are confident in applying.
  • Be confident in chairing meetings, delivering presentations and engaging with stakeholders
    at all levels.
  • Have the ability to analyse complex data and create engaging concise reports.

The offer

In return, we offer the opportunity to develop your climate change and sustainability
experience and expertise, ideas and skills within a friendly, welcoming and dynamic
environment. Working alongside a supportive team of passionate, experienced and skilled
professionals, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to some really positive and
high-profile initiatives which will be supporting Solihull’s contribution to climate change and
net zero.

As an employee of Solihull Council, you will also benefit from a competitive salary, attractive
staff benefits, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and a range of flexible working
options. This will include benefitting from the implementation of our new Smarter Ways of
Working, reflecting that work is what you do and not necessarily where you go to do it. Whilst
your office location will be at The Council House, you will be able to work from other
locations around the borough and from home, as appropriate.
