About this position:

The Administrative Services Division (ACP) of the Budget and Administrative Services Department (BDA) is responsible for managing IDB’s corporate real estate portfolio, providing workplace services including travel, security, and general services, managing physical and digital records, and leading the Corporate Sustainability Program (CSP) of the IDB Group. CSP promotes environmental responsibility within the Bank community by aligning practices in day-to-day operations with the Bank’s overall goals and objectives for sustainable development in Latin America; also measures and reports on the Bank’s institutional environmental footprint, develops and manages projects to reduce and offset that footprint, and provides ongoing education, awareness, and engagement activities for Bank employees at Headquarters and across the Bank’s Country Office network.

The CSP Team is looking for a highly motivated individual to lead a project to systematize the data collection, management, and reporting on the Bank’s footprint and to serve as a sustainability professional supporting other CSP activities and projects, including efforts to reduce the Bank’s environmental impact and to engage Bank personnel in sustainability efforts.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead project to develop, structure, and systematize internal analytics capacity, collecting and analyzing data to calculate a greenhouse gas inventory and other components of the Bank’s environmental footprint, consistent with the Bank’s Inventory Management Plan. Liaise with Country Office and Headquarters data providers as necessary, developing clear communications regarding data requests and submittal procedures and troubleshooting doubts where necessary.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact on sustainability data management system. Liaise with software provider on technical support, training, or updates as necessary and facilitate training of other IDB staff as appropriate.
  • Produce clear, compelling, and relevant visual and written materials (including graphs, charts, presentations, reports, and web articles) to communicate the Bank’s footprint and efforts to reduce it.
  • Provide input on setting goals for reducing the bank’s environmental footprint, and effective strategies/projects for achieving those goals.
  • Stay abreast of – and brief management on, as necessary – changes in international greenhouse gas standards and reporting protocols that may affect the Bank’s reporting efforts or investments in carbon offsets.

Other Support Tasks

  • Assist with corporate climate-related risk evaluation, opportunities, and disclosure. Liaise with the Finance and Climate Change teams, and other working groups.
  • Support the “Green Ambassadors” network by helping organize regular gatherings of departmental representatives and sharing relevant content to enhance engagement and action across the Bank community.
  • Support the organization and delivery of awareness programs, special day events, and engagement activities to increase sustainability knowledge and commitment of Bank employees.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, environmental engineering, natural resources economics, or related field (Master’s is a plus).
  • Experience: At least two years of experience in sustainability and climate change, corporate sustainability, climate finance, environmental or energy management, or quantitative research methods in climate or related topics.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration:

  • Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
  • Length of contract: 12 months.
  • Work Location: On site.
