The Department of Natural Resources is looking for a Cost Share Program Specialist (Natural Resource Specialist 4) to join our Service Forestry team in the Northeast Region. We are looking for an individual who is a proven team player, has experience in forestry, forest health, fire prevention, and suppression, and displays an effective form of leadership to deliver program goals to Service Forestry staff and local landowners.

The Cost Share Program Specialist reviews and approves cost share fuels reduction/forest health projects, processes reimbursement payments, keeps records, and does integration of mobile GIS technology. This position will provide landowners with fire prevention information, Firewise education, forest health education/outreach, residential risk assessment, and fuels reduction guidance, and ensure that section foresters are adequately trained in cost share and forest health program implementation.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in Forestry or similar natural resources field AND four years of professional experience in forest management or related field.
    OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in professional forest management techniques.
  • Experience working with people, especially private landowners, community leaders, and other professionals.
  • Experience in fuels mitigation techniques.
  • Forest fire prevention and suppression techniques.
  • Demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability in computer applications such as ESRI ArcGIS/ArcGIS Online (AGOL), Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.
  • Perform assigned duties in a manner consistent with applicable laws, regulations and public records retention and requests are followed.
