Swiss Red Cross (SRC) is a long-term partner of the South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC) cooperating in development programming and emergency response. The current thematic collaboration focuses on improving community health, providing safe water, hygiene and sanitation (WASH), blood safety & availability, psychosocial support and cash distributions to those affected by climatic shocks or other humanitarian emergencies. Furthermore, National Society Development (NSD) is at the core of our partnership. Next to the outgoing Country Coordinator, our SRC delegation in Juba consists of a Health Delegate and a Finance Delegate.

What your job will be

  • In cooperation with SSRC and the SRC HQ manage and strategically develop the SRC programme in South Sudan.
  • Supervise and monitor SRC-supported projects. While implemented and reported by SSRC, the Country Coordinator acts as an advisor and, if needed, supports SSRC in the planning, monitoring and reporting of SRC-supported projects. 
  • Monitor, oversee and control expenses and budgets and further drive for improvement in the finance management process SSRC-SRC.
  • Jointly with SSRC, identify and plan new projects under the overarching SRC programme. Assure support to SSRC if required in developing project proposals, log frames and budgets.
  • Provide or arrange for technical backstopping in supported projects through the technical advisory services of SRC.
  • Line-manage and support two SRC delegates in their duties and administer the SRC delegation office.
  • Closely coordinate with Movement partners (PNS, IFRC, ICRC) and other stakeholders. Participate as an active member in technical working groups.
  • Assess, in cooperation with the ICRC, the security situation; review, maintain and ensure the adherence to security risk management processes.

Skills required

  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g. social science, business administration, public health)
  • Minimum of 8 years of international cooperation working experience as a manager or supervisor, preferably in East Africa
  • Demonstrated experience in team, project cycle and finance management
  • Technical skills/background in health project implementation in low-resource settings
  • Familiarity with Red Cross Movement and NSD would be a strong asset
  • Diplomacy, tact, team spirit, leadership qualities and negotiation skills are essential
  • Fluency in English (working language)
  • Willingness to live and work in a fragile context with tight security regulations
