As Country Director, you will be responsible for managing the impact oriented country programme. In doing so, you take into consideration the overall WHH strategy and mandate and ensure adherence to WHH quality standards. You will be responsible for a sound financial management of the allocated funds as well as for the acquisition of additional funding. This will require a professional and experienced approach towards structures and processes, strategic programming and human resources management. As teamleader of the national and expatriate staff members, you are expected to take over responsibility for security management to assure the safety and security of your employees.
Your responsibilities
Overall responsibility for the development and management of WHH’s Country Programme in Malawi;
Establish and maintain a sustainable and diverse funding basis for the Malawi Country programme;
Manage and recruit staff in accordance to WHH leadership principles, staff policies and strategy;
Identification of potential partner organizations and development of joint cooperation strategies;
Elaborate and ensure a preparedness plan for disasters and potential crises on the basis of the country specific situation;
Expand cooperation with strategically relevant national partners to integrate innovative approaches into the WHH country program and jointly contribute to WHH’s global and national strategic goals;
Identify co-financing opportunities and ensure the timely development of successful project proposals in line with the relevant donor regulations and strategies;
Analyze and, if necessary, adjust the WHH organizational structure in Malawi to ensure adequate capacities for high-quality program work and achievement of WHH global and national objectives;
Representation of WHH vis-à-vis donors, relevant government and coordination bodies, partners and the media.
Your profile
A university or college degree in a relevant field such as International development, International management, Rural development, Agricultural sciences or a comparable level of qualification;
At least 7 years of project management experience and strong leadership experience in international humanitarian aid and/or development cooperation;
Proven experience of managing multi-national teams with a particular focus on people development;
Proven experience in working with various national Civil Society Organizations;
Experience in managing a diverse donor portfolio and establishing good donor relations;
Regional working experience in the southern African context as well as experience in Food Systems/System approach programming would be an asset;
Coordination and organisational skills – even under a high workload;
Excellent communication skills and intercultural sensibility;
Readiness to receive necessary vaccinations for working in Welthungerhilfe’s project countries;
Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
