About MAG

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role

MAG is hiring for a Country Director to provide strong representation and programme development for MAG in Ethiopia. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will be responsible for programme design, development, and oversight, ensuring quality delivery of MAG activities. You will have a wide variety of strategic responsibilities including contract management, donor liaison, people management, security management, capacity building and risk management. You will be responsible and accountable for the delivery, effective management, monitoring and evaluation and development of the programme, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations and MAG’s mission and mandate.

About you

You will be an experienced senior manager with proven expertise in the development of new business, including programme design and development and contract negotiation. You will be a proven leader, with experience managing administrative, financial, and people management systems to ensure project efficiency. Experience of programme start-up in complex compliance environments would be highly advantageous. You will have experience in successful relationship development and negotiation with a range of stakeholders including local partners, government bodies, donors, and other NGOs. You will be an excellent communicator, capable of representing MAG internally and externally, with the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships with diplomacy. You will be solution-focused, with the creativity and aptitude to respond to pressure with limited supervision, and overall commitment to MAG’s core values and strategic direction.

About the Ethiopia programme

MAG is registered and accredited as a humanitarian mine action NGO in Ethiopia, and is in the process of establishing a country office and operations focused on responding to the threat posed by explosive ordnance contamination in northern Ethiopia. Initial planned programming will focus on the delivery of Explosive Ordnance Risk Education, working with local partners, and capacity support to national actors. Further scale-up and expansion of activities to encompass survey and clearance operations is anticipated over the coming months.
