Bryngarw Country Park is a 113-acre Green Flag award-winning and Green Heritage Site accredited
park, located in the heart of the county borough of Bridgend. A designated Valleys Regional
Park Discovery Gateway, Bryngarw Country Park is part of Welsh Government’s National Forest for
Wales.

Bryngarw Country Park enjoys over 200,000 visitors a year thanks to its woodlands, wetlands,
meadows and formal gardens to explore, and its wide range of activities and facilities,
including visitor centre and café, education and wellbeing centre and children’s play area.

What it’s like to work here:

Bryngarw Country Park is a popular destination for families, particularly during the school
holidays and at weekends, but you’ll get to know the regular dog walkers and wildlife
photographers who visit all-year-round.

Bryngarw Country Park is managed by Awen Cultural Trust, a registered charity whose purpose is
‘to make people’s lives better’. Income received through car parking charges, season tickets,
events, school visits and the café are reinvested into maintaining and improving the park.

What you’ll be doing:

You will lead a small team, including casual colleagues and volunteers, with a focus on
conservation management and enhancing the visitor experience. You will lead on the day-to-day
management of Bryngarw Country Park, including managing health and safety and its public
facilities. You will oversee the development and implementation of policies such as our park
and forest management plans and support budget management and complete funding bids. You will
carry out daily activities including opening and closing the car park, waste management and
toilet checks. You will deliver activities and experiences to our visitors which may include,
ranger-led walks and educational events. You will carry out site maintenance work to ensure
specific areas of the park are safe for all. You will need to work weekends on a rota basis.

Who we’re looking for an individual who can demonstrate:

  • Practical experience of working in countryside management, a degree-level qualification in
    a relevant subject.
  • Proven track record of managing activities which ensure great visitor experience within a
    countryside/outdoor setting.
  • Experience in a range of ground maintenance tasks, including physical activities, and
    knowledge of best practice.
  • Positivity, initiative, resourcefulness, flexibility and self-motivation.
