Job Description

  • To assist with the delivery of a Countryside Ranger Service.
  • To assist in educating and promoting an awareness and understanding of the countryside,
    climate change and biodiversity.
  • To assist in tackling climate change and improving local biodiversity and sustainability.
  • To assist in ensuring a welcome for visitors to the countryside.
  • To assist in mediating between public use and other rural land uses.
  • To assist in caring for and enhancing the natural heritage.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To promote an awareness, understanding and appreciation
    of the natural heritage, climate change and biodiversity by delivering environmental education
    programmes to schools and community groups. 
  • To support local biodiversity and sustainability
    initiatives by participating in working groups and implementing plans. 
  • Contribute to the
    creation of a Forest Schools cluster group. 
  • To promote the Scottish Outdoor Access Code to
    schools, users and land managers. 
  • To undertake a programme of site and access route patrols. 
  • To liaise with partners to ensure that sites and access routes are safe and well maintained. 
  • To investigate access disputes and to mediate where appropriate. 
  • To manage access
    improvement projects. 
  • To contribute to the delivery of information and interpretation
    strategies at strategic countryside sites. 
  • To assist in an audit of countryside access
    routes. 
  • To undertake surveys of visitors at strategic locations. 
  • To assist with the
    promotion and enforcement of Management Rules at Gartmorn Dam Country Park. 
  • To supervise
    volunteers. 
  • Contribute to the Biodiversity Partnership and respond to enquiries relating to
    biodiversity issues. 
  • Any other duties considered appropriate to the post.
