Background:

Sahara Economic Development Organization (SEDO) is an Iraqi National NGO it was established in November 2007 as an independent NGO with its main office in Tikrit city. It focuses on developing the economic sector by providing business management training courses and counseling services to entrepreneurs and potential investors, enabling them to contribute to the local economy efficiently. SEDO is considered among the most effective and qualified organizations in Iraq. It has conducted economic studies on the business environment in Iraq, identifying business opportunities and market niches for potential investors in Iraq. SEDO started humanitarian intervention in Iraq to respond to the urgent need for our beneficiaries, its work in the WASH, Livelihood, protection, Food security, and Education sectors.

Main Purpose:

The CP&MHPSS Officer is responsible for manage and guiding all CP and MHPSS activities under SEDO’s project in Qayyara subdistrict in Nineveh governorate. He/she is responsible for ensuring the excellent management of the staff and coordination with the project coordinator to ensure the successful implementation of the designed activities in the framework of the project. Providing strategic advice, ensuring effective implementation of the activities, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining relations with stakeholders.

Job Description

• Manage the implementation of high-quality, evidence-based and community-level child protection and mental health promotion and prevention activities targeting children, adolescents and caregivers, in line with proposal agreements and SEDO standards.
• Manage the use of evidence-based psychological intervention modalities to offer group person-focused support to children and caregivers experiencing higher levels of distress
• Monitor progress of activities against planned achievements, outcomes and impact, including use of Quality Benchmarks; evaluate the continued relevance and appropriateness of the interventions
• Ensure that the progress reports and relevant donor reports are timely, of high quality, and serve to inform management decisions
• In coordination with the Project Coordinator, establish relationships and patterns of collaboration with key stakeholders in the community around child protection and MHPSS priorities, including active feedback and accountability channels
• Participate in the implementation of CP, MHPSS or multi-dimensional needs assessments and monitoring; ensure ongoing assessment/analysis of local context to understand existing and emerging risks and communicate trends with other staff members and partners.
• In collaboration with other relevant teams and partners, contribute to the identification of the most vulnerable groups of children and caregivers in the community, and support the formulation and implementation of relevant outreach strategies
• Develop and maintain up-to-date CP & MHPSS service mappings, provide quality vetting of potential referral options, and establish/maintain referral pathways and mechanisms in collaboration with Child Protection, Education, and other sectors.
• Contribute to the contextualization and content development of community-level CP and MHPSS intervention packages, ensuring it is informed by community members, including children, sensitive and relevant in context
• In coordination with the Project Coordinator, ensure representation and participation in local CP and MHPSS coordination platforms, and other relevant coordination
• Recruit, motivate, coordinate, train, coach and supervise PSS workers.
• Provide technical support to PSS workers to foster age- and gender-sensitive, inclusive facilitation and expand opportunities for child and adolescent participation
• Continuously identify capacity building needs for staff and partners, and coordinate with the Project Coordinator to deliver capacity building needs

Skills/Competences

Essential

• Previous experience in a similar position/tasks with N/INGOs (at least 4 years).
• University degree in Humanities and/or similar.
• Strong knowledge of the protection system in Iraq.
• Adherence to humanitarian principles and code of conduct, in line with SEDOS’ principles, values, and regulations.
• Fluency in Arabic and at least good skills in English.
• Good IT knowledge and skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel across the assigned project areas at short notice and spend extended periods with communities.
• Previous experience in supervising educational activities.
• Knowledge of Child Safeguarding policy and PSEA.

Desirable

• Previous experience in developing psychosocial material for training.
• Previous experience in relating to local authorities and communities.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure.
• Strong diplomatic, interpersonal, listening, and communication skills.
