Crew Coordinator

tendersglobal.net

The Maine Trail Crew offers an opportunity to work in the beautiful Maine woods and develop skills applicable to the growing industry of trail building – whether you are simply looking for a fun, active summer job among a small group, or a steppingstone in your path to a career in the outdoor industry. The Trail Crew will build stone steps, waterbars, retaining walls, and other erosion control structures. The work you will complete on the iconic Appalachian Trail will be enjoyed by thousands of hikers for decades or centuries, and we expect applicants to embrace the mission of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club.

The Crew Coordinator will support the operation of the Maine Trail Crew, a field team of five. The Crew Coordinator will roughly split in half his or her time as follows: (1) off trail (from basecamp) managing logistics, and (2) working as a crew member on the Appalachian Trail.

Some duties will include planning, purchasing and organizing backcountry meals; maintaining the crew budget, record keeping and reporting; and trouble-shooting problems related to vehicles, staffing, basecamp, equipment, etc.

Basecamp and days off housing will be rudimentary and bunk style. Having a personal vehicle for days off is essential as Maine is a rural state with limited public transportation. Sorry, no pets allowed.

Crew Coordinator Qualifications:

  • Backcountry backpacking, camping and cooking experience.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written).
  • Good health, physically fit, and must be able to hike long distances in mountain terrain.
  • Ability to solve problems with flexibility and resourcefulness.
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work well with others from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Willing to collaborate and communicate regularly with the crew leader and supervisors

Dates:   May 22 – August 22, 2024
