Northwest Habitat Management offers restoration and mitigation planting, site maintenance, noxious weed control and related services to restore riparian, prairie and other types of habitats. We work primarily in Skagit and Snohomish counties with occasional work elsewhere in Western Washington.

Job Description

This position will oversee a crew of three-four technicians and coordinate habitat restoration work in the field. Crew members will work as a team to achieve restoration management goals for our clients. Tasks from April-October include native tree and shrub planting, live staking, mowing and brush cutting, EZJECT lancing, spot spraying, tree tube installation and the preparation and maintenance of new and existing planting sites. Tasks from October-April consist primarily of native tree and shrub planting, tree tube installation, compost and mulch spreading, site preparation, woody weed control and occasional winter spot spraying.

Pay is based on experience and ranges from $23-$25/hr to start. This position operates on a full time 40 hours per week schedule of 4-10’s April 1st-October 1st and a part time schedule of 18-30 hours per week October 1st-April 1st.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate activities with field crew
  • Ensure safe handling, mixing and application of herbicide
  • Record work progress using GPS/GIS
  • Coordinate and update owner on daily tasks and progress
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with colleagues, clients and the public
  • Operate brush cutters, walk behind mowers, backpack sprayers, hand pruners, etc.
  • Track and record herbicide use on WSDA spray sheets

Required Qualifications:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • Valid drivers license
  • Clean driving record (must be insurable)
  • Criminal background check
  • Ability to work on uneven ground and steep slopes
  • At least (2) two years experience working in noxious weed management and/or habitat restoration
  • Experience with backpack spraying, cut and dab and frilling techniques
  • Ability to lift up to 40lbs comfortably
  • Basic understanding of native plants and priority noxious weeds
  • A current pesticide applicators license or ability to obtain one within 45 days of employment including the aquatics and rights of way endorsements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Past leadership experience
