Salary: AmeriCorps Living Stipend of $700 per week (paid bi-weekly) plus housing available and an Americorps Education Award of $5,176.50 upon completion of terms of service

Classification: AmeriCorps, Full-time, Non-exempt (March – November)

Location: Monticello, Utah

The Canyon Country Youth Corps (CCYC) is a program operated by the Bears Ears Partnership in Monticello, Utah. CCYC provides opportunities for youth and young adults to participate in service projects on public lands in Southeastern Utah in partnership with the land-managing agencies of the region. Service Projects include trail maintenance and construction; fence construction, repair or demolition; habitat restoration; mechanical and non-mechanical vegetation thinning; invasive species removal and treatment; and other conservation related projects in backcountry and front country settings. 

Position Summary 

March  – November 2025 

The CCYC Crew Leader is an AmeriCorps position that leads a crew of 3 to 4 Crew Members on conservation projects around Utah. These projects include chainsaw, trail, and fencing work primarily. The Crew Leader position is designed to provide professional development for individuals in the conservation field. The Crew Leader will provide skills to successfully lead young adult crews throughout the Corps season. Crew Leaders must have strong mentorship skills, and a defined leadership style. They will help facilitate crew member training including technical backcountry and front country skills, and conservation work. The position will be responsible for executing a high quality of work with crews on chainsaw, fencing, and/or trails projects, while using scheduled time for crew member development activities. These activities include: discussion, critical thinking scenarios, writing development and conservation lessons.

CCYC crews work varying schedules of 4-10 days on and 2-6 days off. Typically, in a two-week time frame every 80-90 hours on, 50-60 hours are off. Crews will be camping in remote locations during time on.

AmeriCorps Benefits 

Living Stipend–$700.00 weekly (paid Bi-weekly)

Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,176.50 upon completion of 1200 hours of service. Education awards are eligible for a match at several institutions.
