ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:

The College Reach-Out Program (CROP) is a state funded grant through Florida Department of Education (FDOE) designed to increase the number of students who enter and successfully complete a post-secondary education.

POSITION SUMMARY:

CROP Counselor position will facilitate communication with students and parents to assist with developing students’ academic and career plans link to high school graduation and college entry. This position requires strong critical thinking skills, problem solving abilities, time management, and a keen ability to work
autonomously as well as with other CROP personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

COUNSELOR DUTIES:
• Maintain file on CROP students; monitor students’ attendance in program activities;
• Conduct Saturday information sessions related to grade promotion, graduation, and life skills;
• Assess students’ college readiness with supportive documents;
• Conduct workshops for students and parents related to postsecondary entry;
• Assist students and parents with college applications, financial aid/scholarships and other necessary
documents related to entering college;
• Assist with planning and coordinating activities related to gaining college/university entry and campus
tours in coordination with other CROP staff;
• Maintain emails/files of all documents related to assisting students and parents with college application
process;
DATA/REPORTS:
• Maintain and provide attendance & course data for quarterly state reports;
• Collect and maintain students’ report cards each semester and compile grades in all core subjects;
• Update students’ files each funding year, i.e., contact information, school enrolled and grade level.

 

PROGRAMMING:
• Monitor students’ promotion, high school graduation and college tests scores tests scores;
• Assist with gathering information for CROP Interim and Final Reports;
• Maintain sign-in sheets related to CROP student activities conducted by Counselor;
• Assist with planning and executing CROP’s educational & cultural activities.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree, with at least one year of experience in a student affairs or student personnel position; or a Master’s degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, or Sports Recreation Administration. Work experience may not be substituted for the Bachelor’s degree requirement for this position.

NOTE: Occasional unexpected activities come about that enhances services offered to students. All employees are asked to be flexible and understanding in such situations that may require unscheduled hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree preferred and experience working in a high school or college environment at least two (2) years assisting students with course selection and issues related to graduation requirements.
