CUHK Vice-Chancellor Early Career Professorships

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), a comprehensive research university ranked among the best and most international in the world, invites outstanding scholars and scientists to join us as Assistant Professor or Associate Professor under the University’s flagship Vice-Chancellor Early Career Professorship Scheme.

The Scheme is now in its fourth year and has attracted world-wide interest, for which we are thankful. CUHK is committed to building a strong faculty and research team and promoting diversity and inclusion in fostering a cohesive community dedicated to achieving excellence in research and education, for the benefit of society. The CUHK Strategic Plan 2021–2025, “CUHK 2025: Excellence with Purpose and Responsibility,” sets out the University’s development plans and direction and is available on the University homepage (https://www.cuhk.edu.hk).

Scholars and scientists in any discipline, including clinician-scientists, with a PhD or equivalent degree obtained not more than 10 years earlier than the date of application, are warmly invited to apply.

In alignment with the CUHK Strategic Plan 2021-2025, researchers with interests and expertise in the following four strategic areas of research will be accorded priority:

–       China: Tradition and Modernity

–       Innovative Biomedicine

–       Information and Automation Technology

–       Environment and Sustainability

This year, applicants interested in the field of “Responsible Artificial Intelligence and Future Society” are especially encouraged to apply. This interdisciplinary focus is not limited to STEM disciplines, but encompasses a wide range of fields, including ethics, governance, law, education, and social science.

Advances in artificial intelligence (AI) are reshaping the socioeconomic landscape. CUHK has strengths in AI research, particularly in Science, Engineering and Medicine. The University aims to develop an interdisciplinary AI research agenda that not only yields scientific and technological breakthroughs, but also ensures that these advancements serve the best interests of our society. We welcome applications from exceptional early-career scholars whose work exemplifies this holistic, socially responsible approach to AI research.

Successful candidates will be offered:

–       Named tenure-track appointment as “Vice-Chancellor Assistant Professor” or “Vice-Chancellor Associate Professor”

–       Basic salary of not less than HK$1 million per annum plus one-off start-up fund of up to HK$2 million

–       Benefits such as relocation support, housing allowance, leave, medical benefits and retirement benefits

–       Teaching load reduction for the first two years and abundant opportunities for interdisciplinary or cross-Faculty collaboration

–       Access to a wide network of global partners and opportunities in the Greater Bay Area
