BDAC is an ACCO (Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation) registered as a member under the umbrella of VACCHO (Victorian Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation) and represented nationally through NACCHO (National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation).

BDAC was founded to represent and provide services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living on Djaara Country.

BDAC has a responsibility to ensure growth of services, development of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, better and improved health outcomes for our people, improved quality of life and be a lead agency in providing self-determination employment and career pathways for Aboriginal people.

As a peak body providing the opportunity to work across the breadth of our membership in Victoria, you will support the organisations, work alongside key stakeholders and advocate to improve outcomes so that Aboriginal children have every opportunity to thrive and be raised safely in Aboriginal families and communities.

This position will be supported to work from home, and in the office with the opportunity for travel across Victoria and interstate.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Working with the VACYPA Implementation Coordinator support the development, implementation of key components (including cultural practise) and evidence collection of Koorie Supported Playgroups (KSP), Family Preservation & Reunification Response (FPR) and the Rapid Engagement & Diversion programs (RED).
  2. Work alongside staff across the 15 VACYPA member Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) in Victoria within resourcing, timeline and budget parameters.
  3. Enhance the capacity of ACCO staff and leadership to embed evidence-informed approaches, drive practice change and other efforts through the development of tailored plans and support.
  4. Contribute to the establishment of local monitoring and evaluation systems (including monitoring implementation quality and client outcomes) that capture early indicators of effectiveness and support a longer-term evaluation of the impact of the programs.
  5. Work collaboratively with key stakeholders to monitor, evaluate and analyse the effectiveness of strategies and identify opportunities for improvement. Including, Victorian Aboriginal Child and Community Agency (VACCA), Department of Family, Fairness and Housing (DFFH), Parenting Research Centre (PRC) and Centre for Evidence and Implementation (CEI).
  6. Contribute to monitoring and reporting on challenges, successes, risks and trends in the evidence components of the KSP, FPR and RED and work with appropriate implementation and governance groups to address these as necessary – building on successes and mitigating and addressing challenges.
  7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships and facilitate the flow of information across the VACYPA and with key external stakeholders, promote increased knowledge and understanding of the work and the use of evidence to inform stakeholders, policy and practice.
  8. Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements of VACYPA records, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
  9. Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and the VACYPA’s occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
  10. Demonstrate how the actions and outcomes of this role and work unit impacts Aboriginal community and the ability to facilitate the delivery of effective support and services.

About You

  1. Having deep knowledge of the unique history and current realities of Aboriginal children, families, and communities, and being able to use this understanding to drive the work.
  2. Expertise in Aboriginal cultures and communities, especially those in Victoria, and the ability to apply this knowledge practically in supporting ACCOs, Aboriginal families and children.
  3. Understanding child development, attachment, and trauma theories as they relate to Aboriginal families and their children and using this knowledge to guide the work.
  4. Demonstrated experience in conducting workshops, providing training, offering mentorship, engaging in reflective practices, and/or providing coaching.
  5. Exceptional organisational abilities, including effective time management, as well as strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  6. Proficiency in establishing and nurturing relationships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs).
  7. Drive and commitment to work with ACCOs, Aboriginal staff and see the project through.
  8. Conceptual and analytical ability, including using these skills to reason through problems and create ideas and innovations in support of the work.
  9. Ability to generate new ideas; draws on a range of information sources to identify new ways of doing things; actively influences events and promotes ideas; translates creative ideas into ACCOs work.
  10. Demonstrate a strong ability to adapt to evolving work environments, embracing change as an opportunity for growth. Willingness to apply adult learning principles to continually develop your skills and knowledge, cultivating a culture of adaptability and innovation within the work.

Qualifications/other requirements

  • A tertiary qualification in fields related to early childhood development, psychology, social work, social science or related discipline is desired.
  • Travel to provider ACCOs throughout metropolitan and regional Victoria may be required.
