CEMML is a research, education, and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University (CSU). CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. CEMML is hiring a Cultural Resources Planning Specialist (Technical Writer). The Technical Writer will interact with a group of interdisciplinary specialists that collect and analyze complex information and resources regarding the potential impacts of climate change on cultural resources to help inform adaptation planning for military installations.

The position will support all aspects of developing, reviewing, and editing climate change vulnerability assessments and incorporating relevant information from the reports into Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plans (ICRMPs). As such, excellent scientific analysis, synthesis, writing, and communication skills are required.

The position is full-time with a strong preference for on-site work based at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, but hybrid or remote work will be considered for exceptional candidates.

This position might require occasional travel and fieldwork.

Required Qualifications:    

• BA or BS in Archaeology, Anthropology, History, or related discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge/understanding of Federal regulatory compliance requirements governing cultural resources including Section 106 and Section 110 of the NHPA, the ARPA, the NAGPRA, and the NEPA.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant field experience with a demonstrated knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of archaeological fieldwork (Phase I, II, and/or III investigations).
• Minimum of 1 year of authoring/co-authoring technical reports or other publication types and reviewing/editing the work of others.
• Minimum of 1 year of GIS data analysis and GIS data management as it relates to cultural/natural resources management.
• Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
• The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
