The Role

The Culture Lead is responsible for supporting a cultural transformation in a highly regarded mission driven, legacy organisation, keen to transform to meet contemporary expectations.

Developing and driving a dynamic and participatory change program that aligns Oxfam’s internal culture with the identified values and objectives, the role is responsible (with other members of the leadership group) for supporting the people of the organisation, to develop new ways of working.  

This role will work with others across the organisation to create a contemporary organisational narrative, articulate the practical implications of principles and help to design optimal organisational processes. Working with staff and volunteers to develop a desired culture for OAU and for designing and initiating the work required to cultivate this culture, with strong appreciation of the value of accountability in leadership and dynamics of power. The role, with the leadership group, is responsible for modelling, promoting and facilitating an equitable, respectful and engaged workplace. 

With a strong understanding of the requirement for cultural safety, feminist principles, climate, racial and economic justice, this role is responsible for ensuring practices, initiatives and behaviours are aligned with stated commitments and agreed directions.

Accustomed to performance focussed environments and committed to the value of transparency and clarity of purpose and expectation, the role will be enthusiastic, energetic and comfortable with dissent, debate and a learning culture.

The role has strategic responsibility for supporting the development of organisational frameworks, tools, policies, systems and processes relevant to the scope of the role.

A little about you (the key selection criteria)

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Learned knowledge or lived experience that supports a deep appreciation of feminist principles, social justice, inclusion, anti-racism, diversity and cultural safety and decolonisation.
  • Have successfully led highly complex projects or programs, applying advanced knowledge on Social Justice and Inclusion coupled with the ability to apply design thinking including user experience, agile ways of working and other innovation methodology to foster a culture of continuous improvement and learning at OAU
  • Designs, models and lead initiatives to build and sustain an inclusive organisational culture which enables OAU to engage and retain a diverse workforce representative of the communities within which OAU works, including for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, people from culturally/linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as inclusion reflecting disability, gender and LGBTIQA+.
  • Train, coach and support colleagues, partners and allies in new ways of working including influencing uptake of various tools and programs with the ability to provide robust thought leadership, demonstrating continuous learning of the field.
