General Summary:
The Information Security & Risk Management (ISRM) organization is looking for a strong team player with experience in cloud security. As a Cloud Security Engineer, you will be responsible for securing Qualcomm’s public cloud environments, including AWS, Azure and GCP. You will use state-of-the-art tools and techniques to introspect cloud environments, apply security best practices and to develop automated security infrastructure. You will partner closely with architects and developers across the company doing DevSecOps to enable rapid iteration in cloud environments while maintaining the highest security standards.
As a Cyber Security Cloud Engineer at Qualcomm
you will be collaborating with our engineering team to refine and enhance our security strategies across our large, diverse cloud ecosystem. From working with programming technologies that assist in detection and remediation to leveraging various technologies and tools that provide insight into potential security threats and methods to mitigate them. The skills you have and obtain will be leveraged in multiple facets – being emerged in our agile development process, working on tasks that contribute to enhancing security posture or automating responses to threats. Being involved in contributing to and solving real world problems with dynamic business units and functions. Assisting with operational and risk metrics, dashboards, and reporting to highlight overall security posture, risks, and opportunities with users, service teams, and leadership, emphasizing transparency and open communication. We are looking for motivated people
who have experience in the areas listed, but even more importantly a strong desire to learn and grow as an engineer on the Cloud Cybersecurity team. At this level, we are committed to help provide training opportunities to acclimate new employees to how Qualcomm’s cloud security team operates.
Responsibilities
- Identify and prioritize security risks and mitigation.
- Assist with security baselines, principles, and strategies.
- Participate in the planning and execution of cloud security roadmaps.
- Analyze events and develop policies within the cloud security platform.
- Partner with the cloud team to securely organize and manage cloud account lifecycle, access, security controls, and policies.
- Leverage programming skills to develop tools that streamline security processes and reduce operational overhead.
- Assist with operational and risk metrics, dashboards, and reporting to highlight overall security posture, risks, and opportunities with users, service teams, and leadership.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- Support other ISRM activities, goals, and objectives as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- 1+ years working in cloud environments (Azure or GCP preferred)
- 1+ years programming experience (Python preferred)
- Solid understanding of security principles including Identity and Access Management, network security, logging, encryption, secure access, and vulnerability management.

- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related fields and 3+ years of Cybersecurity relevant work experience OR 4+ years Cybersecurity-relevant work experience without a bachelor’s degree.
- 3+ years of programming experience (Python preferred)
- 3+ years working in cloud environments (Azure or GCP preferred)
- A fundamental understanding of cloud security best practices, threat modeling, and offensive techniques.
- Fundamental understanding of and experience with Scrum/Agile development.
- Fundamental understanding of and experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Certifications are a plus but not required (Azure AZ900, Google Associate Cloud Sec Engineer, AWS Cloud Practitioner)
Education Requirements
Required: Bachelors of Science in: Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics, or Information Technology; or equivalent experience.
Preferred: Masters of Science in Computer Engineering, or Computer Science, or Applied Mathematics, or Information Technology.
