Organizational Unit Overview | Information Technology and Computing Services (ITCS) is the central agency that supports enterprise-wide computing at East Carolina University. ITCS, through innovative information technology initiatives and service, provides opportunities for the ECU community to excel in teaching, research, and service using state-of-the-market technology and collaborative environments. ITCS is first and foremost committed to providing excellent information technology support for faculty, staff, and students. ITCS partners with campus departments, other universities, and industry to make strategic investments in information technology infrastructure that will help maintain a competitive advantage in administrative applications, faculty research, and outreach to the state and nation. We will achieve this through increasing the core functions and deploying appropriate technology throughout the university. The position will be assigned to and play a crucial role within the Cyber Security Operations Center (CSOC) team, which operates as a unit within the Information Security Office. This team is responsible for detecting, analyzing, and coordinating the university’s response to cybersecurity threats. Additionally, this team oversees security incident response management, vulnerability management, sensitive data verification, cyber threat analysis, security information, and event management (SIEM) and monitoring, as well as daily investigation of SIEM alerts and digital forensics. |
Job Duties | Assist the CSOC team in developing, monitoring, and enforcing practices to ensure that university data and systems are secure from unauthorized access and inappropriate alteration of information resources. Assist with planning, monitoring, implementing, and reporting on security measures to protect systems, networks, and enterprise information, expected to stay up to date on cyber intelligence, monitor emerging products, hacker technologies, or best practices that will improve security for the organization, minimize breaches, and enhancing industry and statewide security compliance regulations Assist with utilizing network security, threat, and vulnerability management, centralized log management tools as well as specialized skills to monitor, detect, and investigate security events with a focus on securing the university environment and other research-focused environments, as applicable. Assist in working regularly with internal and external users to remediate events deemed to be vulnerabilities or incidents. Assist with security incidents, monitoring incident queues, and addressing requests appropriately through ticket escalation and resolution. Assist with documentation, change management procedures, inventory, and system logging of test and production systems as well as participating in project management evolutions regarding information security processes, standards implementations, security access monitoring, scanning, and enforcement, remote access monitoring, audit preparation, risk assessment, and management activities, and information security policy analysis and compliance reporting. Assist with customer service to internal and external technical and functional user personnel and groups, to ensure that the centralized and specialized systems are operating and communicating correctly. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements (FWA) under the ECU FWA Policy. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education | At least 1 year of experience in related fields, developing related skills; ability to work at a fast pace, and have problem-solving and critical thinking skills with experience exercising mature judgment; ability to understand and differentiate between critical and non-critical systems and networks; Strong written skills and experience working in a team environment; knowledge of the latest security measures at all stages of an information system life cycle; ability to work independently and autonomously. |
