DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for a Protection Coordinator in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

As Our new Protection Coordinator, you will have the overall responsibility for providing technical and programmatic support for DCA protection programmes in its areas of operations in DRC. The role will include harmonisation of tools, implementation of strategy and training to ensure DCA has a consistent and clear approach to protection across all sites. The Protection Coordinator will work closely with the Head of Programmes in the finalization and roll out of the protection strategy including development of protection related advocacy messages using data driven evidence.

In DR Congo we have implemented humanitarian projects since 2004. DCA aims to protect vulnerable communities in DR Congo, and to contribute to improve stability and social cohesion by addressing and mitigating the consequences of conflict and displacement. We clear explosive remnants of war, and assist communities affected by conflict and displacement by addressing protection and other essential needs. At the center of our work is our belief that local communities are the best agents of change.

Development, Implementing and Information

  • Give input to the Protection strategy based on technical assessment of protection and psychosocial needs and Coordinate implementation of the country programmes´ protection strategy
  • Implementing a capacity strengthening strategies with clear timelines
  • Developing, contextualising and adapting internal and global guidelines, protocols, and standard operational procedures, and securing that they are rolled out and known by staff
  • Ensuring that the project team understands and applies DCA´s code of conduct and related policies and standards, internal rules and institutional policies
  • Ensuring that Protection Team Leaders and officers maintain productive relationships with sub-Clusters and working groups at field level
  • Ensuring that main protection concerns are brought to relevant stakeholders to advocate for the respect of human rights, international humanitarian law and minimum protection standards

Supervision, Collaboration and Technical Support

  • Providing structured supervision and technical support and assistance to protection managers, team leaders, officers and case workers in the delivery of group- and person-focused activities
  • Working in collaboration with the Head of Programs, Area Manager and other programme and support staff to ensure protection principles are mainstreamed within other sectors and departments
  • Maintaining open and professional relations with team members, promoting a team spirit of equity and peer-support ensuring communication/coordination/information with/between teams

Monitoring, Evaluation and Coordination

  • Undertaking regular field visits to provide technical guidance and supervision
  • Participating in monitoring and evaluation ensuring activities are followed up/fully documented
  • Ensuring protection data is collected, archived, processed, analysed and disseminated in ethical modalities, in line with international standards and internal data protection protocols
  • Participating in proposals, budgets and concept notes development
  • Ensuring cohesion and harmonisation of protection activities and services across different implementation sites
  • Providing technical inputs to periodic donor reporting requirements, ensuring reports are produced and delivered in a timely and quality manner

We Expect the Following Qualifications from You

  • Significant knowledge of International Human Rights Law, International Humanitarian Law and displacement guiding principles
  • Minimum 5 years international experience implementing and developing Protection programs in emergency and post conflict environments with limited resources and infrastructure in remote environments
  • Experience in Protection as well as Child Protection and GBV programming
  • Understanding of mental health approaches and standards
  • Experience in analysis of protection monitoring information and reporting
  • Experience in preparing protection programming and advocacy strategies for a complex programme covering multiple sites
  • Experience providing remote technical guidance and developing training to suit a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct trainings on protection and human rights topics, including staff training
  • Experience of information data management, utilizing databases and platforms
  • Strong experience with M&E tools
  • Advanced computer knowledge (hardware and software, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
