DATA ADMINISTRATOR

The Public Interest Network is looking for a Data Administrator to join our team of smart, fun and committed data nerds whose full-time job is to make the world a better place. You might be a good fit if you find satisfaction in tasks that have right answers or wrong answers, if you like impossible puzzles, if you agree that quality means doing things right when no one is looking.

Key Responsibilities

As the Data Administrator you’ll work to enhance and improve data for close to 10 million supporters of 100 different social change organizations. If we do everything right, no one notices us. If we make any mistakes, everyone notices us. We take great pride in getting things done right and quickly. Candidates must have excellent judgment and discretion and the ability to oversee a team and significant projects.

The Data Administrator is responsible for managing a team of people to perform 5 key functions:

  • List Quality: Any data analyst will tell you that a big part of working with data is keeping the data clean. People don’t respond to you if you can’t get their name right. Reports don’t make sense if the data is messy.
  • Gift Processing: Every year we process tens of thousands of fundraising returns for over $1 million.
  • Data Entry: Updating new information quickly and accurately is essential to our success.
  • Help Desk: Help our fundraisers and campaigners make good use of the supporter data and track their work in our member database.
  • Report Administration: In addition to making sure we have great lists to use for our political and fundraising work, we also use our data to provide essential insights to our organizational leadership.

Qualifications: Candidates should be highly detail oriented and good at working with people. The ideal candidate has a track record of setting up and working with administrative systems and leadership experience.  Fast and accurate typing, experience with databases and data tools including SQL, Access, Excel, Google Apps Script, and Python are a plus.

About The Public Interest Network

The Public Interest Network operates and supports more than a dozen organizations – including PIRG and Environment America and their state affiliates – committed to a shared vision of a better world and a strategic approach to change.

Our work focuses on the problems that arise from America’s single-minded pursuit of endless economic growth: We’re still burning fossil fuels even though it’s changing the climate. We keep giving antibiotics to healthy livestock, even though it leads to “superbugs” that are antibiotic-resistant. We use plastic products for a few minutes only to throw them away so they pollute the oceans for centuries.

And our approach is unique: We focus on the big picture, but are relentlessly pragmatic and prioritize making a difference in people’s lives over making a statement. We work with everybody to make change happen, political ideology aside, championing good ideas wherever they come from. And we are serious about the work — we set clear goals, benchmarks and systems to measure our progress, and hold ourselves accountable to making change now and building for the future.

This unique approach gives our staff an opportunity to make a concrete difference for the environment and the public interest — just as hundreds of dedicated staff have done over our 50 year history. If you want to add to this change-making legacy; if you have the passion and the drive that it takes; if you’re looking for a mission, not just a job — then let’s talk.

Compensation and Benefits:

The target annual compensation for this position is $38,180. The Public Interest Network offers an excellent benefits package. Our benefits package includes medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents, paid time off, our commuter benefit program, a 401(k) plan with employer match, parental leave, long term disability insurance, and may include needs-based student loan assistance. We also offer an excellent training program and opportunities for advancement.
