The Foundation is in a growth phase with a multi-year data strategy in place to support The Garvan Institute’s vision to see a future where everyone lives a longer, heathier life. Central to the Foundation’s multi-year strategic plan is the Data and Business Insights team (‘data team’) where the Foundation uses data to identify opportunities that will improve operational efficiencies and grow fundraising.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Data & Business Insights team is responsible for management of the Foundation’s CRM, data integrations, reporting and analytics and overall strategic use of the Foundation’s donor and donations data.
This role is the next stage of development for the data team and is instrumental in realising the ambition of providing individual donor experiences that maximise lifetime value for the organisation. As an experienced data analyst, you will interrogate vast and extensive datasets such as donor donation history, marketing activities and operations to play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision-making and actionable insights to support the Foundation’s strategic goals.
Salary: Up to $98,500 + 11% superannuation + salary packaging (dependent on experience).
Employment Type: Full time permanent opportunity.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Key responsibilities:
Data Processes & Systems
- Understand and maintain existing data processes and systems, with an ability to find areas for optimization. Existing systems encompasses the CRM, data warehouse and various digital platforms/tools
- Conceptualise, map, propose and implement data pipelines to connect various systems
- Scope and validate potential new technology applications to automate or streamline data processes
Reporting & Analytics
- Review and input into segmentation within programs and at the broader unified database level
- Deliver targeted data for fundraising campaigns using SQL and python to prepare data
- Work collaboratively with data contractors, as well as independently, on the delivery of reporting and analytics. Projects include lifetime value calculations, program analysis, channel analysis, RFV and attrition/churn analysis
- Maintain and update existing dashboards in PowerBI
Data Management
- Support excellent data integrity and data management processes, within and across the CRM and other platforms
- Advise on use of the digital marketing tools to create efficiencies and effective donor journeys both within platforms and throughout their journey across channels
Governance
- Ensure all relevant data processes are PCI and Privacy compliant
- Focus on mitigating risk by supporting, establishing and abiding by data procedures
ABOUT YOU
- Minimum three years’ experience in a similar role
- Intermediate experience in SQL
- Experience with working with Power BI dashboards or equivalent tools such as Tableau
- Excellent project management skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to distil information from multiple sources and stakeholders, while understanding various business objectives
- Ability to translate requests into data requirements and communicate back in lay language
- Talent for analysing and improving processes and procedures
- Absolute commitment to accuracy and a high attention to detail
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS BENEFICAL
- Intermediate experience in python preferable, or willingness to learn and up skill
- Experience in not for profit or with loyalty programs desirable, but not required
- Experience with digital activity as part of customer/donor journeys
