This role is a high impact position needed to support the delivery of data programs within MunichRE’s Global Specialty Organization (GSI). This role will help the organization to implement what is needed to deliver our strategic data platforms. Work will include, but not limited to the end to end support / data solution architecture design for acquisition, organization, integration, transformation and secure storage of mission-critical data. This role will report into the team led by the Head of Data Solution Architecture for GSI.

In this position you will:

  • Work closely in partnership with large system integrators to support the delivery of the programs that align to our data strategy.
  • Work with one or more delivery teams on a given program to ensure requirements are obtained, work has been properly identified, and design data solution architectures to support the delivery of our data capabilities.
  • Partner with technical teams across both the GSI Data Team as well other peer organizations to ensure that solutions are aligned to the business needs and follow enterprise standards and guidelines.
  • Partners with data management and governance leads to ensure that projects are delivered at or under budget and follow all compliance, regulatory, and data quality requirements.
  • Ensure partner organizations (e.g. DevSecOps) have the details required to support the timely builds for environments and automation as well as ensuring that all architecture toll gates processes.

Qualifications and responsibilities:

This position requires sound technical skills, the ability to collaborate across teams both on-off shore, an operational / data solution architecture / delivery mindset, and self-management leadership skills.

Successful candidates will also possess the following experience, skills, qualifications, and/or competencies:

  • Strong technical hands on skills that can be leveraged directly to support the deliverable.
  • Strong influencing leadership skills and experience with a track record of empowering people to execute efficiently towards a common and understood goal.
  • Ability to work in a complicated environment with multiple jurisdictions. The ability to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities and coordinate multiple tasks to ensure that work output from others is delivered on-time and accurately while operating in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
  • Consulting and collaborative working style creating a culture of accountability and sharing.
  • Advanced verbal and written communications skills, as well as active listening, along with teamwork and presentation are essential.
  • Must communicate clearly, effectively, and concisely, both verbally and in written form.
  • 10+ years of experience and in-depth knowledge of data solution architecture, data delivery and associated architecture principles, data modeling concepts, ETL/data pipelining procedures, and all steps of data production process
  • Prior experience in insurance and/or reinsurance or a closely related domain in support of specialty insurance lines is a necessity.

Technical Requirements

  • Extensive hands on experience in SQL, Python, Data Integration/Mass Ingestion/pipelining and associated patterns both on prem and in cloud environments along with associated tooling as well as the ability to design patterns that exploit the cloud capabilities of these tools. Examples include – Informatica IICS, ADF, Notebooks, Databricks, Delta Lake, Warehousing technologies and associated patterns, Cloud platforms.
  • Experience with one of more cloud service providers – AWS, Azure, or GCP. Azure is preferred.
  • Knowledge of serverless compute and intimate understanding of process run time (e.g. Spark versus ETL),
  • Familiar with automating data pipelines and working closely with the DevSecOps organization for environment provisioning / setup,
  • Strong Database management systems experience – SQL Server and Oracle for both cloud and on premise options.
  • Understanding of PAAS services relating to data, analytics, and integration interfaces – Databricks, etc.
  • Professional certifications in public cloud and tooling – Informatica and Azure are highly desired.
  • Analyzes data requirements and provides data analysis techniques, and applies data modeling (including data vault) and data quality techniques to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components in complex environments
  • Demonstrated experience with Agile delivery frameworks/methodologies (e.g. Scrum, SAFe) and tools (i.e. Jira, AzureDevOps) working closely with a large system integrator..
  • Understanding data related security challenges and tooling with specific technologies (e.g. Databricks)
  • Experience in migrating data and associated systems from on-prem to Cloud environments
  • Knowledge of advanced analytics (models, tools, etc.) and their operational support is a plus.
  • Experience with MDM / RDM toolsets and associated architecture solutions.
  • Experience with Data visualization tooling and exposing data through a consumption layer.
  • Expertise in designing cloud based data warehousing and intimately familiar with zoned / layered architectures – e.g. Medallion paradigm.
  • Experience with data modeling with relevant insurance industry specific domains being successfully demonstrated.
  • Experience creating standards and guidelines as well as common data frameworks.
  • Strong experience with designing cloud based systems with efficiencies and a FinOps focus.
  • Support all cross team integration ensuring adherence to all toll gates and other compliance mandates in supporting data delivery.
  • Familiar with data profiling (quality), cataloging, metadata, and data mapping
