The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral, and independent organization with the exclusively humanitarian mission to protect the lives and dignity of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance. It also endeavor’s to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening International Humanitarian Law and universal humanitarian principles. The ICRC’s Regional Delegation in Nairobi co-ordinates the institution’s humanitarian activities in Kenya, Tanzania, and Djibouti.

Overall Responsibility

The Data & Analytics Manager 1 supports and monitors data management processes within the Environment & Climate Change Department to enable evidence-based decisions and improvements in data entry, quality, support and analytics.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Creates and maintains a database for 5 environmental indicators, namely energy consumption, water consumption, paper usage, carbon dioxide emissions and waste management practices, for all ICRC delegations and other volunteering sites participating to the Sustainable Delegation Programme.
  • Ensures throughout the year that the participating sites and delegations are indeed providing the required data on a regular basis and monitors data quality, consolidates, cleans, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develops on a yearly basis an environmental performance dashboard for each participating site and delegation.
  • Organizes calls and shares information with demanding sites to improve their understanding of the environmental performance dashboards and potential actions that can be taken to reduce their environmental footprint.
  • Analyses the data and creates graphs to be used in environmental reporting of the ICRC, in close collaboration with the Environment & Climate Change Team Leader.
  • Maintains and updates an electronic platform (external to the ICRC) that hosts key environmental performance information to be used by delegations to monitor their performance throughout the year.
  • Contributes to the estimation of the ICRC’s environmental footprint. Supports the yearly carbon foot printing exercise of the organization.
  • Explains and promotes, through documents, presentations, or via the ICRC electronic platform, the findings related to environmental performance analyses.
  • Explain technical information to non-technical colleagues.
  • Learn and use new data tools as well as research applicable tools.
  • Research and propose improvements to the existing analytical process.

Minimum Requirements and competencies

  • University Degree in a related field such as Statistics, Data science, Mathematics, Computer science, Economics, Engineering, Information technology or equivalent with analytical focus.
  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in a similar field,
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in a data management environment, (having worked in sustainable development and/or climate change field is an added advantage)
  • Experience in an international organization or NGO, is an asset,
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English (Knowledge of French is an asset),
  • Advanced Excel (Pivot Table, Formulas, Functions and Macros), Tableau, SQL and Python for Data Analysis skills. Skills in Power BI and R are an added advantage,
