Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust

tendersglobal.net

About the role

As Data Officer you’ll be using your knowledge of UK habitats and your GIS mapping, data and
project management skills to make a real difference in the quality of information available to
local and national decision-makers to help safeguard irreplaceable ancient woodland and other
vulnerable habitats.

The role will initially focus on updates for the national Ancient Woodland Inventory (AWI), and
the local habitat inventory for Hertfordshire. Updates will be achieved mostly through
desk-based GIS analysis, comparing current data sources with historical map evidence and field
survey reports. The role will also involve liaising with a variety of stakeholders including
land managers, local authorities, conservation organisations and volunteer surveyors, as well
as prioritising, organising and carrying out field surveys for a small subset of potential
Ancient Woodland sites.

The role will be working within the close-knit HERC team, including with a Landscape Historian
who is assisting with historical map research for the AWI update project.

In addition to your main projects, you will also support the HERC team with core work as
required (up to two days per week). This includes using GIS and database systems to process
commercial data searches and other information requests, assisting with data entry and import,
and supporting volunteers.
