Calling all User Engagement & Database Specialists – Are you tired of the corporate grind? Is it time to jump off the treadmill and make a difference in the community you live in?

Then we’ve got the job for you!

This position offers a rare opportunity to extend your career in a dynamic and successful social enterprise. You can help us build stronger community organisations through the provision of easily accessible grants information. You can have it all! Stimulating work, great conditions and a positive impact through your work.

About Our Community

The Our Community Group provides advice, connections, training and easy-to-use tech tools for people and organisations working to build stronger communities.

Our partners in that work are not-for-profit organisations and social enterprises; government, philanthropic and corporate grantmakers; donors and volunteers; enlightened businesses; and other community builders.

Our vision centres on social inclusion and social equity. Our dream is that every Australian should be able to go out their front door and stroll or wheel to a community group that suits their interests, passions and needs – or log on and do the same.

We want to help make it easy for people to join in, learn, celebrate, worship, plant trees, play a game, entertain, and be entertained, care and be cared for, support others and be supported, advocate for rights and celebrate diversity. To get involved. To be valued.

We have an ambitious agenda; we’re not constrained by bureaucracy or boundaries; we’re not interested in internal politics or egos, just in contributing something useful to society. We don’t have layers of management, and we don’t want someone to be a cog in the wheel of a corporate system. We want you to have plenty of opportunity to make Our Community enterprises your own, and for you to be as excited about their potential as we are.

About the opportunity – Database & User Engagement Specialist

We are seeking a full-time enthusiastic, energetic Database & User Engagement Specialist to join our busy Funding Centre team. You will work with us to maintain our national grants database and newsletter. The EasyGrants newsletter provides up to date information on available grants for the not-for-profit sector across the length and breadth of Australia, informed by our powerful online grants directory.

You’ll be working with a diverse team of high performing, committed and enthusiastic people who really care about making a difference for people and the not-for-profit sector.

You will be responsible for undertaking research to identify new grants and updating the national grants database. You’ll work to identify customer knowledge gaps and identify creative solutions to meet that need together with the production of monthly newsletters that provide funding insights, news, product updates and tips.

Your day-to-day tasks will vary a lot, but it’s all focused on making not-for-profit organisations more efficient and effective.

About you

You’re a natural problem solver with initiative and ambition. You have highly developed ‘soft skills’: you’re friendly, engaging, compassionate, and calm, together with great technical skills that will allow you to provide creative and technical updates to the national database. You will thrive in this busy technical, customer-focused environment. You will have a mind for getting things done and a heart for people and you will set the bar high through the quality of the work you do and the people-oriented decisions you make.

You have the ability to ask the right questions and find the right solutions – you’re tech savvy and you’re passionate about data entry and data integrity, you care how information is presented and strive to ensure it’s the best it can be. You’ll enjoy researching information about new grants and then making sure we capture that information in an accurate and timely way. Your keen eye for detail will be critical in this role.

You’ll enjoy using and embrace learning new tech tools such as Campaign Monitor, Survey Monkey, Craft CMS, Canva, Google Analytics and many more.

Of course, you have great communication skills, enjoy working as part of a team but equally you are happy to put your head down and focus on the data entry tasks at hand. It helps if you’re a bit tech-savvy, as well as confident to take initiative and highlight areas you think need improvement, both in the back and frontends of the database.

Your day-to-day tasks will vary a lot (sometimes exciting, sometimes mundane), but it’s all focused on making not-for-profit organisations more efficient and effective.

The impact you will have

This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape the future of your community. You’ll get the opportunity to work in an ethical company with all the excitement and agility of a start-up without the headaches. We’re built on solid foundations, we’re sustainable and successful – but we’ve only just begun. We’re not interested in just keeping things ticking along. We’re builders and we’re on a mission.

Other relevant information:

The nature of this role is quite varied, and we know our strength comes from the diversity of our people and so we want people with different experiences and backgrounds to apply. This is a full-time position, but we recognise the importance of balance and flexibility and understand that it’s not a one size fits all approach, so we’d be delighted to welcome parents returning to the workforce.

Our organisation is one that is as supportive and socially conscious as it is agile and explorative. Our DNA of commercial mind and social heart captures who we are at our core. We have a great working atmosphere with an inclusive, fun work culture. Our team is full of highly collaborative, diverse and highly skilled people. We want you to be a part of a unique environment where everyone contributes. We share our work, and we help each other when needed.

The Database & User Engagement Specialist reports to the Funding Centre Director. When in the office, standard business hours are 9am to 5pm Monday – Friday and start and finish times are flexible. Currently our team is working partially from the office and partially from home.

To create a better work-life balance, the Our Community Team works a 4-day week (pay for 5 days). We deliver 100% of the work in 80% of the time for 100% of the pay. We have high productivity, reduced stress levels, improved mental health and great team cohesion.

Our Community is located at 552 Victoria Street (corner of Curzon Street and Victoria Street), Wurundjeri Country, North Melbourne. We work in a modern, bright, art-filled, open plan office and operate in a fairly informal manner.
