The Defense Trade Analyst I is responsible for ensuring compliance with defense trade regulations and export control laws. They perform detailed analysis of international trade activities, assess potential risks, and ensure adherence to trade licensing requirements. The analyst conducts research, interprets policies, and provides guidance to stakeholders regarding defense trade compliance. They assist in reviewing export documentation, conducting audits, and implementing internal controls to maintain compliance.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Defense Trade Analyst I: $100,848.37            

Pay commensurate with experience.

Defense Trade Analyst I Responsibilities Include: 

  • Reviews proposed munitions export requests for commodities and services which are not new, are covered by well established, directly applicable precedents, and other information readily available in office files, references, and records.
  • Identifies pertinent legal, policy, regulatory, and procedural considerations related to applications within a commodity category assigned to him/her (e.g., military electronics, arms and ammunition, aircraft, tanks, naval vessels, radar and missiles).
  • Collects and analyzes data and information supplied by applicants and confirms and determines relevance of precedent cases.
  • Elicits recommendations concerning the proposed transaction from all concerned agencies (e.g., DOD, NASA, and Energy) and pertinent bureaus within the Department of State, as appropriate, on the technical and policy implications thereof.
  • Recommends to a sister office within the Directorate certain cases, which in his/her judgment require checks with the U.S. Embassy in the destination country to determine the validity of the transaction.
  • On routine cases, the incumbent provides final recommendations on whether to approve, return without action, or deny license applications.
  • Responds to routine telephone and email inquiries from applicants on individual cases prior to submission, as well as during the review process.
  • Provides to applicants or other U.S. Government agencies guidance on export policy and administrative practices.
  • Drafts and coordinates, as necessary, emails, memoranda, and other communications on matters relating to his/her responsibilities.
  • Acquires, through review of current world events, technical journals, etc., knowledge in foreign policy, industrial and technological advances as related to his/her assigned responsibilities.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required
  • Experience with AECA and ITAR regulatory
  • Strong customer-service focused skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and partnering skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills. The government may require writing samples.
  • Strong computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and apply regulatory material in the process of evaluating license applications and taking final action on specific requests.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with short-fused actions, meet deadlines; manage time, distribute responsibilities, and achieve milestones and deliverables.
  • Has working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs and be able to operate all office equipment including but not limited to: telephones, copy machines, fax machines, scanners, printers, and computers.
  • May be required to travel within Domestic and/or International, unlikely
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
