The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (OMFR), is seeking a dental hygienist with experience and/or a desire to instruct dental imaging techniques and interpretation to dental and dental hygiene students in the Radiology Clinic setting. The OMFR team includes an oral and maxillofacial radiologist, dentists, dental hygiene educators and dental assistant/imaging technicians. This team is committed to Ohio State’s shared values:  excellence and impact, diversity and innovation, inclusion and equity, care and compassion, and integrity and responsibility. 

The candidate will be expected to provide instruction in the OMFR clinic where care is provided to over 4,500 patients per year. Providing hands-on clinical instruction to dental hygiene and pre-doctoral dental students is the primary responsibility of this position. Patient related responsibilities include checking in patients, accurately entering patient information into the electronic health record (EHR), acquiring intra- and extraoral digital images; managing patient flow through the clinic; scheduling patient appointments and maintaining a respectful and supportive environment for patient care. Additional responsibilities include importing and exporting digital images; maintaining quality assurance and infection prevention in the clinical setting; evaluating and inspecting dental imaging equipment to ensure safe operation and maintaining supplies. 

Work Schedule: 32 hours per week

Physical Requirements: A dental hygienist needs to be able to use of both hands, dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental handpieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for handpieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.

Education & Experience Qualification:

Required:

Two- or Four-year Dental Hygiene degree. Ohio Dental Hygienist license by the Ohio State Dental Board required. 2 years of relevant experience required.

Desired:

Master’s Degree in Dental Hygiene or Education

Additional Information:

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is currently completing a $95 million expansion to its existing facility.  Construction of a state-of-the-art, fully equipped Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic is underway with a January 2024 completion date. This imaging center is designed to serve as the primary site for OMFR training.

The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States, and it is the only public dental school in Ohio.
