Director of Student Success and Student Engagement (Internal Search)

Under the direction of the College of Dentistry (COD) Associate Dean of Admissions and Student Affairs, this faculty position directs events and services designed to support student success, engagement, and retention for the Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) and Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene (B.S.D.H.) programs. Assisting in developing and implementing strategic programs and measures used to ensure student’s academic success and providing the environment, resources, and tools to be successful during their tenure at the Co Dentistry. Allocation of effort will be 50% for this administrative role (Service) and 50% Teaching in the faculty’s designated specialty area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Meet and advise students on navigating academic and clinical challenges.
  • Help students identify on campus resources and tools to assist them and ensure academic engagement and success.
  • Communicate with course directors and group leaders and help identify student facing academic challenges.
  • Connect students with SASSI services and organize and act as a Liaison with the Development Office, Alumni Affairs, and Financial Aid.
  • Supervise the organization of Graduation Ceremonies, White Coat, Match Day, and other admission’s related activities.
  • Attend on-campus, off-campus, student organization meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Dean of Students to organize and manage the scholarship awarding process.
  • Regularly meet and work closely with Student Assisted Services
  • Generate reports requested by C.O.D. administration for Student related activities.
  • Completing the relevant student activities annual reports and assisting in CODA documentation
  • Participate in the daily operations of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs
  • Assist the UTHSC Finance office with the construction of the Cost of Attendance for the College of Dentistry
  • Assist the Associate Dean of Student and Faculty Affairs with collecting materials needed for the College of Dentistry’s Endowed Scholarships Selection Meeting, distributed through the UTHSC Financial Aid Department
  • Direct and set up new student orientation for DDS and BSDH incoming students:
    • Securing rooms and space for orientation events
    • Coordinate distribution of dental kits, instruments, lockers, workstations, and cassettes.
    • Organize SASSI presentations and testing.
    • Set up the UTHSC Orientation event for new students with UTHSC Student Services
    • Organize the Student ID badges and parking permits process with parking services.
    • Student Health Insurance
    • Organize financial aid literacy meetings.
    • Other duties can be assigned by the Associate Dean of Admissions and Students’ Affairs and the Dean of the College of Dentistry

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Hold a faculty position at the College of Dentistry and knowledgeable of the Dental/Dental Hygiene curriculum.
  • Degree of DDS or BSDH degree is required, master’s degree in higher education preferred.
  • Knowledge of university financial aid policies, matriculation procedures, academic records, student academic support resources, and enrollment management processes
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal/written communications and time management skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, Axium, electronic portfolio and centralized application management
  • Strong knowledge of health professions student development and academic services
  • Awareness and sensitivity of people with diverse socio-ethnic and cultural communication styles

Work Schedule:  Typically, on campus during regular working hours with occasionally evening, weekend, and overnight travel.
