ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Neurology Department of the University of South Florida is the academic clinical neurosciences center for the greater Tampa Bay area. Currently the 4th fastest growing metropolitan region nationally, in southwest Florida, comprising of over 4 million people. Florida leads the United States in job creation with Tampa/Hillsborough County at the forefront. Our over 50 member faculty encompasses all major neurological subspecialties with particular repute in the areas of epilepsy, movement disorders, Parkinson’s, neurotoxicology, cerebrovascular disease, neurocritical care and cognitive neurology. We provide multispecialty care for neurological patients in 5 tertiary care centers with accreditation by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) as a comprehensive stroke center as well as epilepsy.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The position directs all administrative and operational activities for the Department of Neurology, fulfilling the educational, research, healthcare and quality missions in the Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Neurology. The position provides administrative management of educational programs, general operations, financial management, budget development, fiscal and administrative compliance, supervision of staff, human resource administration, recruitment, purchasing, space allocation and utilization, fiscal and administration compliance, search coordination, diversity and a key liaison for operations. The position serves as a strategic partner to the Chair, Vice Chair’s, Division Directors, and other senior leadership and staff in the planning and implementation of policies, programs, and initiatives that support the primary mission areas of the department. The position is directly responsible for ensuring that administrative and operational activities are in compliance with Department, university, practice and educational policies and procedures. The position is responsible for the training and development of all direct reports and providing guidance/direction and resources to other department staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs all administrative activities for both the Department of Neurology ensuring compliance with state and university rules and regulations. Accountable for department fiscal matters, including budget development, budget monitoring and financial reporting, purchasing decisions and processes, accounts payable processing, foundation support, clinic productivity, and revenue cycle operation activities at the department level. Prepare and present budget for assigned divisions and monitors compliance of each cost center within the approved budget.
Serve as an administrative representative for the unit on division, college, campus or university- wide or committees and work groups. Direct all administrative activities of the department in compliance with state, university, UMSA and MSSC rules and regulations. Coordinate activities of the various divisions within the department. Serve on various committees and work groups within the College of Medicine and USF Health. Coordinate recruitment efforts with hiring managers, serving as liaison with DEO and central HR. Oversee the academic appointment process for faculty, house officers, fellows, and students in compliance with USF policy.
Participate in department’s strategic planning process by developing annual and long-term goals that align with the mission of the department, implements the strategies and action plans of each division, advises on actions to achieve success, and monitor’s progress. Participates in other key
department projects as part of Neurology Executive Management Committee. Assist faculty members in obtaining and administering research grants. Oversee billing, collections, and tracking of accounts payable/receivable for clinical services.  Oversee clinic operations and services including, but not limited to, clinic budgets, lab services, accreditation surveys, allied health staff, patient issues, medical records, and medical errors.
Assists the Department Chair with coordinating and managing the tenure and promotion process. Responsible for ensuring that the semester effort reports are completed and authorized in a timely fashion using the University of South Florida’s on-line faculty effort report system. Responsible for ensuring that annual faculty evaluations are completed, distributed and returned to the Department Chair.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or other field directly related to the position’s specific responsibilities and three years of professional business experience; OR a Master’s degree and one year of professional business experience.
Appropriate experience clinical operations or the department’s specialty may substitute on a year for year basis for the required degree.

FLSB1310 equivalency:
Four years of directly related experience can be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree.
Six years of directly related experience can be substituted for a Master’s degree.
