About Invisible Children – Invisible Children is a nonprofit organization working to end violent conflict and foster thriving ecosystems in solidarity with our world’s most at-risk communities. Today, we are leveraging lessons we learned, the expertise we have developed, and trusting relationships with communities to break cycles of violence in regions facing violent conflicts. Our community-protection, conflict mitigation and transitional justice programs cover the cross-border region that spans DRC, CAR, South Sudan and Sudan.
This Opportunity – The Deputy Chief of Party is a full-time position for an upcoming five (5) years funding opportunity that we expect USAID to release soon, to operate in the cross-border region that includes the prefectures of Mbomou and Haut-Mbomou in southeastern CAR and the provinces of Haut and Bas Uélé in northern DRC. The objective of this activity is to: (1) increase resilience of the local communities, (2) improve living conditions among the transhumant and sedentary population and (3) secure conservation and management of ecosystems.
Reporting & Supervision – The Deputy Chief of Party, Programs (DCoP) will lead the programmatic detailed design, planning and implementation of the project, reporting to the CoP.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities –
- Provide leadership, strategic guidance, technical expertise and management for the programmatic aspects of the project, under the overall supervision of the CoP;
- Plan, direct and coordinate technical activities to ensure that project goals and objectives are met, and prescribed timeframes and funding parameters are adhered to;
- Act as the acting CoP in their absence.
Key Competencies Required –
- USAID DCoP experience strongly desired. Experience in a similar role (such as project director/deputy director, project team leader/deputy team leader or country director/deputy country director for programs) required;
- Graduate degree in a relevant field strongly desired;
- At least 7 years of relevant professional project management experience, 15 years of overall professional experience strongly desired;
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in at least one technical field related to the project required: community protection, social cohesion, peace building, conflict mitigation, early warning systems, MHPSS. Longer and more diverse technical expertise strongly desired;
- At least 5 years of relevant working experience in contexts similar to Central Africa; direct experience in DRC or CAR strongly desired;
- Direct substantive experience of project management at or above USD 4 million a year absolutely required; at or above USD 8 million a year strongly desired;
- Complete written and spoken fluency in either French or English, with full professional proficiency in the other language, required. Ability to independently produce high quality reports and documents in English for an external audience without the need for assistance in terms of English language;
- Advanced command of Word, Excel and confidence and skills with technology, including web-based collaboration platforms;
- Demonstrated track record on the duration of roles held, specifically seeing projects through for their entire duration and/or to their end date. The project is expected to last for five years and Invisible Children is looking for candidates who can credibly demonstrate an interest in overseeing the project for its entire duration.
