The University of Virginia Division of Student Affairs invites applications for an exciting opportunity within the Division – Deputy Coordinator for Judicial Affairs. The University’s mission to develop engaged citizen-leaders is the foundation of the Division of Student Affairs work, which is guided by six core values – academic rigor, diversity and inclusion, health and wellness, honor, public service, and student self-governance. The Division consists of over 200 employees within five units – the Office of the Vice President and Chief Student Affairs Officer, the Office of the Dean of Students, Student Health and Wellness, the University Career Center, and the Office of African American Affairs – all working together, for and alongside students, to create the distinctive student experience for which UVA is known.

The Deputy Coordinator will provide daily operational support for the Judicial Affairs area, including the student-run Honor and Judiciary Committees. As two of the most storied and active institutions of student self-governance at the University, the Honor and Judiciary Committees have delegated authority from the Board of Visitors to investigate and adjudicate allegations of student misconduct within their respective jurisdictions. The Deputy Coordinator will assist the Judicial Affairs Team in supporting these Committees, including securing resources for Committee members, scheduling and facility needs, review of financial reimbursements and budget questions, record retention oversight, and general logistical support. The Deputy Coordinator will also support the case management systems for the Committees, including data tracking and analysis involving case metrics/trends, student surveys, peer benchmarking studies, and other initiatives.

The Deputy Coordinator will receive disciplinary referrals, meet with students, and file charges in appropriate cases. The position will also follow-up with referred students post-sanctioning.

The Deputy Coordinator will serve as a hazing case investigator, providing written reports of investigation findings and facilitating referral of the case to the University Judiciary Committee in appropriate circumstances. The position will also manage logistics around hazing termination appeals.

The Deputy Coordinator will manage all logistics for Contributory Health Impairment cases and appeals, including outreach to panel members, collection of materials, correspondence with relevant parties, and scheduling meetings and hearings.

The position will coordinate all Judicial Affairs operational logistics and technology functions including record retention schedules, case management systems, supplies, scheduling, space (trial room), and parking (for case parties).

The position will also oversee Judicial Affairs project management including benchmarking, websites, document management, and reception/stakeholder engagement.

In addition to work with Judicial Affairs, the Deputy Coordinator will assist with critical incident planning, management, and response for the Student Affairs Division. Examples include serving as an on-site University official for student protests/demonstrations, and supporting Divisional planning, response, and deployment for University crises or emergencies involving active threat incidents, weather emergencies, public health emergencies, and other institutional level issues.
