Deputy Director

Summary of Position: The Deputy Director of the Idaho Conservation League (ICL) plays a critical leadership role in advancing ICL’s mission to protect the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the lands and wildlife you love. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Deputy Director is responsible for overseeing and supporting two key departments: Development and External Relations.

This role blends strategy, planning, team leadership, operational oversight, and hands-on support to raise the funds necessary to support ICL’s $3.1 million annual budget, and to grow and engage our membership base through savvy communications and public engagement.

Salary: $87,500-$95,000 DOE

Classification: Full-time exempt

Location: Boise, Idaho

Responsibilities:

Development Department Oversight and Team Leadership (60%)

• Lead and manage ICL’s development team (4.5 FTEs).
• Collaborate with development staff to create, implement, and monitor comprehensive fundraising plans to meet revenue goals.
• Ensure successful execution of the membership program, including major donor cultivation, legacy giving, grant writing efforts, renewal and monthly giving programs, and fundraising events.
• Ensure strong supporter relationships through strategic stewardship, personalized outreach, and effective communications across all aspects of our development work.
• Provide strategic guidance, mentorship, training, and performance management to development staff.
• Prepare regular reports on fundraising activities, revenue projections, and progress toward goals.

External Relations Oversight and Team Leadership (30%)

• Supervise and support ICL’s 2 staff leads who are responsible for managing advocacy engagement, grassroots organizing, communications, and marketing by ensuring they have the tools and resources needed to achieve ICL’s goals.
• Provide strategic direction and mentorship to strengthen outreach, engagement, communications, and marketing efforts.
• Assist External Relations’ efforts to meet both conservation and development goals through diverse channels, including in-person opportunities, direct mail, email, newsletters, blogs, website content, press releases, social media, advertising, and earned media.

Organizational Operations and Leadership (10%)

• Participate as a member of ICL’s senior leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, culture, and success.
• Support effective internal management and coordination across departments.
• Collaborate with the Board of Directors and relevant committees as needed.

Required Skills/Abilities

• Passionate about ICL’s mission
• 5–7 years of senior-level experience in nonprofit fundraising and management with a strong track record of meeting or exceeding goals.
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills; ability to lead high-performing, collaborative teams.
• Demonstrated success in setting and achieving fundraising goals and managing complex projects, from large scale fundraising events to multi-level giving campaigns, from concept to follow up.
• Knowledge of communications, marketing, storytelling and grassroots engagement to strengthen relationships, drive fundraising, and activate supporters to take action.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Proficiency with Salesforce or similar CRM.
• Knowledge of digital advocacy tools such as, Quorum, Account Engagement, or Hustle and experience with related software systems such as Click & Pledge, DonorSearch, Quickbooks or similar tools preferred.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and internal communication avenues (in Google Workspace, Asana, Zoom, and in-person)  with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment, often requiring a rapid response.
• Flexibility and eagerness to work evenings and weekends for donor events and outreach when needed.
• High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Commitment to ICL’s mission, conservation values, and ongoing diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) efforts.
• Valid driver’s license, insurable driving record, and willingness to travel as needed.

Compensation and Benefits:
This position is full-time and located in Boise, Idaho. Idaho Conservation League offers a comprehensive wage and benefits package, generous benefits—paid health, dental, and vision insurance, and a Simple IRA with a 3% match. Salary for this position is $87,500+, depending on experience. The Idaho Conservation League’s programs and employment are open to all.
