JOB DESCRIPTION

 

This is one of four Deputy Director positions in the department. The selected candidate will be part of the Asia-Pacific Department’s (APD) senior management team, which provides strategic guidance to all country teams in APD, elaborates the analytical and operational agenda of the department, and exercises quality control on the various outputs prepared by the department.  She / He will act as the senior reviewer for several countries, which could include some that have Fund-supported programs and provide oversight of the work of relevant divisions under her / his purview. The selected candidate will be accountable for the strategic approach to the Fund’s relations with these countries and the quality of the operational work on them. She / He will also be expected to lead the department’s work on selected policy issues and contribute to the department’s overall work program as well as to the Fund’s wider institutional objectives. The selected candidate will be expected to bring creativity, innovation, and energy to discharging their responsibilities. A proven ability to motivate staff and deliver high quality, relevant, and timely support to our member countries will be essential.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate is expected to perform the roles and responsibilities of a Deputy Director as outlined in the Fund’s new leadership framework. She / He should possess strong analytical skills, with a background in macroeconomic, financial and structural policy issues. Ideally, the candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree in economics or finance. Experience working at senior levels in financial markets, including investment banks, and research institutions will be a plus. The selected candidate should have excellent leadership qualities and managerial abilities, including skills in strategic thinking and negotiation, planning and organization, and people management. The successful candidate should also have excellent skills in written and oral communication, and experience in conducting successful outreach. Strong interpersonal skills are essential, to help foster close relations with country authorities and provide guidance and coaching to mission chiefs and teams.
