About the Position:

In this newly created role, the Deputy Executive Director will serve as a key member of the Leadership Team, overseeing the organization’s operations, finance and development teams, and supporting the design and implementation of our strategic vision.

The Deputy Executive Director will work closely with the Executive Director to ensure that the organization is fully equipped to fulfill its mission. This includes managing the organization’s finances and daily operations and the staff within these teams, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and implementing strategies to maintain a thriving culture and uphold the organization’s core values. The Deputy Executive Director will play an integral role in fundraising by growing and supervising the development team and cultivating and stewarding relationships with major donors. Additionally, the Deputy Executive Director will collaborate closely with the rest of the Leadership Team on strategic visioning and planning processes to achieve Inclusive Development International’s mission and goals.

Principle Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy:

• Collaborate with the Leadership Team to develop, implement and review the organization’s strategic plan, while helping to define and achieve short- and long-term organizational goals.
• Review and co-design team structures and systems to ensure sustainable growth and maintenance of excellent standards.
• Work with the Leadership Team to solve problems and overcome challenges.

Risk Management:

• Regularly assess potential risks to the organization and staff and collaboratively design and recommend mitigation measures, policies and procedures to the Leadership Team and Board Risk Committee.
• Oversee all risk management policies, including but not limited to those related to digital security, travel and physical security, and staff well-being.

Operational Management:

• Lead and manage the Operations Team in carrying out all aspects of organizational operations, including finance, development, human resources, and administration.
• Ensure that programs and initiatives are implemented efficiently, on time, and within budget.
• Support recruitment, training, and performance management for staff.
• Oversee the implementation of our monitoring and evaluation system and ensure its effectiveness at measuring impact in relation to our goals and theory of change.

Financial Management:

• Lead the development and management of the annual organizational budget and budgets for funding proposals.
• Manage organizational cash flow and long-term financial forecasting.
• Work closely with the Finance Officer to ensure that grants are allocated and expended in accordance with grant contracts and the organizational budget.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks through effective internal controls.
• Help identify opportunities for process improvements to ensure a more efficient financial system.

Fundraising:

• Grow and support the development team to design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that increases annual revenue and expands the organization’s funding base to ensure long term financial resilience.
• Cultivate relationships with current and key prospective donors.
• Provide support and quality assurance for proposal development and grant reporting.

Culture and Values:

• Help to foster a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven organizational culture.
• Lead the implementation of initiatives to operationalize IDI’s Commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) in partnership with the staff JEDI Working Group.
• Oversee initiatives to provide development opportunities for staff, and to ensure a supportive and empowering work environment.

Essential Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience in operations and finance with a minimum of 3-4 years serving in senior management role(s) within the nonprofit sector.
• Specific experience working within international human rights or environmental justice organizations or movements, with a clear understanding of advocacy work.
• A deep understanding of finance, its relationship to the work, and the infrastructure of nonprofit organizations.
• Significant demonstrable experience fundraising, including experience in donor relations, grant writing and resource mobilization.
• Proven experience with strategic planning and designing systems and workflow processes that are aligned with organizational values and support the achievement of organizational goals.
• Experience fostering a collaborative, diverse and inclusive organizational culture and aligning organizational values across internal and external work.
• Effective English language writing, editing, and verbal communication skills (proficiency in French or Spanish is a plus).
• Commitment to Inclusive Development International’s mission and values and inspired to help take the organization to the next level.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, QuickBooks, database programs, and project-management software.

Compensation and Benefits:

Inclusive Development International is committed to providing competitive, equitable and transparent compensation for staff. The salary range for this role is $115,000 – $140,000, commensurate with experience and adjusted for geographic cost of living in accordance with our Compensation Framework. Working Arrangement:

The majority of Inclusive Development International’s team is globally dispersed and works on a fully remote basis. Our main office is located in Asheville, North Carolina. Asheville-area team members work on a hybrid basis (mix of onsite and work from home). The Deputy Executive Director may be based in Asheville, North Carolina or work remotely from another location within the United States Eastern time zone.

Travel:

Some travel is expected for this position, including up to 1 – 2 international trips per year and occasional domestic travel.
