Role & Responsibilities
The Deputy Financial Controller role is part of the Global Support Office (GSO) finance leadership team. The role is responsible for Medair financial reporting to management, and coordinates Medair global financial planning and analysis, budgeting and forecasting. The Deputy financial controller contributes to developing and embedding fit for purpose internal controls to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and regulatory compliance, and to improve operational efficiency by ensuring that budgets are adhered to, policies are followed, capital shortages are identified, and accurate reports are generated for Medair leadership in a timely manner.
Project Overview
Medair Global Support Office (GSO) Finance Department is primarily focused on the financial and investment decisions of Medair, acting as a financial gatekeeper and strategic advisor in daily business operation and also mid to long-term strategic decisions of Medair, with streamlined and optimized key processes, via leveraging fit-for-purpose systems.

Key Activity Areas
Month-end and year-end closing
- Responsible for Medair monthly closing schedule and orchestration of Medair monthly closing process.
- Participate to monthly meetings for review of country programs reconciliations, to ensure accuracy of country programmes monthly closing.
- Perform monthly ad hoc reconciliations and analysis on balance sheet and income statement accounts to ensure accuracy of Medair accounts.
- Prepare and post monthly cut-off entries and year-end entries in the financial system.
- Participate in preparation of year-end closing activities, including responding to auditor requests for information and supporting documentation.
Financial reporting
- Prepare Medair monthly financial statements (Balance sheet, Income Statement, Cashflow Statement, Statement of changes in capital and funds) and ensure of their accuracy.
- Analyse Medair monthly financial statements and prepare reporting at the attention of Medair management.
- Monitor and alert on operational or financial risks and propose actions for risk mitigation.
- Design and publish new financial key performance indicators dashboards at the attention of the management.
- Lead in preparation of Medair statutory and consolidated financial statements (year-end).
- Support country programmes finance managers in preparation of their statutory financial statements.
Financial planning & analysis
- Work with the Finance Director by coordinating Medair budgeting and quarterly forecasting process.
- Responsible for consolidating Medair budgets and forecasts.
- Produce Medair Global Support Office budget and quarterly forecast, working with respective budget holders.
- Analyse Medair Global Support Office budget vs actuals variances.
- Support budget holders in analysis of Medair budget vs actuals variances.
- Recommend changes to improve financial performance.
Internal controls
- Strengthen internal controls accounting processes to ensure the integrity of financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Develop standardized internal control documentation, processes, and procedures within their scope of responsibility across the organization.
- Contribute to improve operational efficiency by improving accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Financial systems implementation
- Participate in the Financial Planning & Analysis system implementation.
- Lead on the implementation of Financial Planning & Analysis system in GSO ensuring all budget holders are trained and supported to use the system.
- Support the development of new budgeting processes, tools and training necessary to embed the new Financial Planning & Analysis system.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance or business administration.
- A Swiss certification in finance and accounting (brevet fédéral or diplôme férédal) a plus.
- English (spoken and written). French (good speaking and written knowledge).
Experience
- Minimum 7 years’ professional experience at a senior role in finance, with ideally an experience as financial controller and an extensive experience in financial reporting and financial planning.
- Financial systems literate (accounting system, FP&A system): a must
- NGO experience a plus
- Computer literate with advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
- Qlik reporting, Power Query and Power BI: a plus.
- Swiss Gaap FER good expertise (including Swiss Swiss Gaap FER 21 and 30).
- Expert knowledge in accounting, financial planning & budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Problem solving, solution focused ability and continuous improvement driving skills.
- Competent with administrative tasks.
- Organized and structured.
- Strong attention to detail: ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering data.
All new deploying international staff to Medair’s country programmes (and other roles which require field travel) should be fully vaccinated with a WHO-approved COVID vaccine, supported with a COVID vaccination certificate as evidence.
