Since 1996, Top End Women’s Legal Service (TEWLS) has been dedicated to advancing women’s rights by providing free legal services for women and non-binary people experiencing disadvantage in the Top End of the Northern Territory (primarily, the greater Darwin region). Through an integrated, holistic, trauma informed and culturally secure approach, they support their clients with intersectional vulnerabilities in the areas of family, migration and civil law with specific expertise in respect to domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV).

Your Impact
In this newly created role, you will be integral in supporting the CEO in the day-to-day management of the integrated legal practice and service delivery of the legal team. Specifically, you will:
- Provide high quality legal advice and casework to clients including litigation
- Supervise, mentor and support a team of senior lawyers, lawyers and paralegals including conducting regular file reviews, monitoring caseloads and capacity
- Develop and nurture a wide range of stakeholder relationships to deliver outreach services and promote the work of TEWLS
- Coordinate and deliver legal education, information and outreach services to the community
- Identify opportunities to contribute to policy issues and law reform submissions
What you bring
You are a senior lawyer who is committed to advancing and promoting the interests of women with relevant experience working in the legal assistance sector or in a law firm. You have a naturally empathetic style and can communicate information in a sensitive manner when dealing with diverse clients with complex vulnerabilities including women from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, culturally and linguistically diverse and migrant backgrounds.
You also have:
- An unrestricted practicing certificate in Northern Territory or are willing to obtain one
- Subject matter expertise in family law, family & sexual violence, migration and/or civil law
- Experience in supervising and mentoring legal practitioners
- Highly effective stakeholder engagement and relationship building skills; an ability to build trust and collaboration with a cross section of the community and sector partners
- Excellent strategic and analytical skills with the ability of providing expert advice
- A current drivers licence and a Northern Territory Ochre Card (or willing to obtain one)
