This role is advertised as based in London, but other locations with an AIS office can be considered; however, this will depend on several factors.

About You:

  • We are searching for a leader who has strong relationship-building skills, and experience influencing and negotiating at a senior level with governments. The successful candidate will have adequate experience conducting and managing research, including field research for advocacy purposes. 
  • You will be committed to ensuring the effective management and professional development of staff in the programme, based on a team environment focused on well-being, respect and equity.  

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage a programme of high-quality research, advocacy and campaigning focused on technology empowerment and/or technology-enabled innovation for the protection of human rights. 
  • Manage researchers, campaigners, advocates and other staff in the programme, ensuring planning, coordination and fair work distribution within the team. Setting priorities, agreeing on detailed work plans, supporting staff and approving final outputs; monitoring adherence to operating standards, including the agreed guidelines on self-servicing.  
  • Write or oversee the writing of timely and effective analyses, reports, briefings, media materials, and other internal and external materials aimed at promoting Amnesty policy positions and contributing to external debate, especially in areas that may be new to Amnesty and underdeveloped in the human rights framework. 
  • Represent Amnesty externally and otherwise act as an expert spokesperson on technology issues to raise public awareness of Amnesty and its calls for action, building support for concrete recommendations for change, and position Amnesty as a global leader on technology and human rights. 

Skills And Experience:

  • Strong experience of managing staff and resources who work across multiple disciplines, as well as traditional human rights investigations. 
  • Significant expert knowledge – demonstrated through substantial professional experience of technology and its intersection with the promotion and protection of human rights concerning Big Tech accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to set strategies, manage projects and take decisions.
  • Experience developing and managing advocacy and campaigns.
