Background/IRC Summary:
The Syria crisis is often described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe since the end of the Cold War. Today, 13.4 million people in Syria – more than half of the country’s population – need humanitarian assistance with needs increasingly being exacerbated by economic decline. Of these, 6.8 million are refugees and asylum-seekers who have fled the country. This is no short-term humanitarian episode. The devastating human consequences to huge numbers of people will endure for decades. The destruction of relationships, communities, livelihoods, homes and infrastructure will take years to repair.
IRC is offering a robust humanitarian response to the Syria crisis a rapidly expanding portfolio, supported by more than 1000+ staff in Syria Country Program. IRC is undertaking programs in Syria and the neighboring countries of Turkey, Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan in the fields of health, child protection, early childhood development, education, women’s protection and empowerment, non-food items and food distribution, cash assistance, water and sanitation, protection and rule of law, and livelihood programming. Our work in these challenging settings gives rise to some of the most pressing issues facing contemporary humanitarian action, including questions of access, security, funding and coordination.
On 29 June 2019 the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) signed an Action Plan with the United Nations (UN) to end and prevent the recruitment and use of children under the age of 18. According to global practice, the UN will, together with the humanitarian community, support the Action Plan implementation. Since its signature, progress has been made in terms of coordination, partnership, fundraising and awareness raising. IRC hosts the Children and Armed Conflict (CAAC) coordination function.
Job Overview/Summary:
As the Deputy Child Protection and Protection Working Group coordinator you will refer directly to the Inter-Agency Protection Coordinator and Child Protection AoR Coordinator. You will be the deputy of the coordinators, assisting them in developing and rolling out a coordination strategy, engagement with Authorities and coordination of partners. This to ensure strategic, coherent, effective, and efficient humanitarian Child Protection and Protection response with considerations for the prevention and response to child recruitment in Northeast Syria aligned with global minimum standards. You will also establish and maintain appropriate coordination mechanisms to support humanitarian agencies engaged in protection and child protection activities. Facilitate inter-cluster coordination at the national and area-based levels, ensuring that protection is mainstreamed and integrated throughout the humanitarian response. The Deputy will co-chair the Protection and Child Protection monthly meetings.

Travel: 65% to field sites across all governorates, as well as attending WoS level workshops and meetings.
