Mission and objectives
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the lead agency on international development of the United Nations. UNDP works in 170 countries and territories to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality. We help countries to develop policies, leadership skills, partnering abilities, institutional capabilities, and to build resilience to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Our work is concentrated in three focus areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience. UNDP’s mandate is to end poverty, build democratic governance, rule of law, and inclusive institutions. We advocate for change, and connect countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life.
Context
As the United Nations lead agency on international development, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in Ghana to support Government and key stakeholders in eradicating and reducing inequalities. This is done within the framework of the Government-UN Sustainable Development Partnership (UNSDP), which responds to Ghana’s development priorities and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for People, Prosperity, Planet, Peace and Partnerships by 2030. One way of doing this is through community resilience and through the FOREST Okyeman project UNDP seeks to do this by empowering the communities to lead the agenda on natural resource governance and enhance financial sustainability through community natural resource governance.
