Mission and objectives

OCHA coordinates the global emergency response to save lives and protect people in humanitarian crises. We advocate for effective and principled humanitarian action by all, for all. OCHA’s work has five core pillars: Coordination OCHA coordinates effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors Humanitarian Financing OCHA coordinates global humanitarian funding appeals and manages global and country-specific humanitarian response funds Policy OCHA sets an evidence-based and forward-looking humanitarian policy agenda Advocacy OCHA speaks on behalf of people affected by conflict and disaster Information Management OCHA collects, analyses and shares critical humanitarian data and information

Context

This project is a collaboration with OCHA’s Design and Multimedia Unit for International Women’s Day, focusing on the contributions of female humanitarian workers in Afghanistan. Through your designs, we aim to highlight the significant roles these women play within humanitarian efforts, aligning with OCHA’s mission to promote gender equality and support in crisis situations. Your work will contribute to raising awareness and appreciation for these women’s dedication and resilience in challenging environments

Task description

We are searching for a skilled online volunteer with strong abilities in designing and creating illustrations to produce three engaging social media cards in observance of International Women’s Day. These cards will highlight the critical roles and contributions of female humanitarian aid workers in Afghanistan. Your responsibilities will include: Crafting visually appealing designs that embody the spirit of female empowerment and humanitarian efforts within Afghanistan. Selecting and incorporating a quote on each card that epitomizes the resilience and hope prevalent among women in humanitarian roles. Working closely with our team to ensure that the designs are in harmony with our organization’s branding guidelines and communication objectives. Providing timely updates through email and participating in virtual meetings as necessary to discuss ideas, revisions, and the final product. Being available for a designated period around specified dates (to be communicated after selection) for receiving feedback and making any needed adjustments. **** Important Note: Candidates are required to submit a portfolio demonstrating previous design samples, available either through a website link or as a PDF document. **** We accommodate communication in multiple languages, offering the option to correspond with us in English, Arabic, French, or Spanish, based on your preference.

Requirements

Required experience

Proficiency in graphic design and illustration software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Experience in designing for social media platforms, with a portfolio showcasing previous work. Strong understanding of cultural sensitivities and the ability to portray subjects with respect and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with a remote team and communicate effectively in a virtual environment. Creativity, attention to detail, and a passion for storytelling through visual design. Knowledge of or experience in humanitarian aid, gender equality initiatives, or related fields is a plus. We offer flexibility in communication languages.
