Are you looking to build your DevOps career?
What you will be doing:
• DevOps technical lead
• Building tools to get our products and services to users in a fast and reliable way
• Transitioning our service deployments from AWS to Azure
This position has a broad and varied scope, and we are looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer who relishes the challenge of a diverse role. Our successful candidate will be a confident communicator with the ability to provide sound DevOps technology selection and configuration advice, who prefers to spend the majority of their time doing ‘hands on’ DevOps work to continuously improve the efficiency of deployment and cloud services. NIWA will run a mixture of both old and new technologies for the medium term, and we are seeking an engineer who enjoys the variety of working across multiple systems and challenge of migrating historical applications to the cloud.
You’ll be working with eight software developers in the room plus many more across the country. All of whom need tools and services to rapidly deploy new systems and make changes while maintaining services to national customers.
As an agile team we like to release early and release often, but we also have responsibility for a very wide range of projects across all NIWA science areas. To support these, we need great test and deployment tools and someone with a good understanding of Linux platform configurations, software platforms such as Postgres databases and Apache and Tomcat web servers. You will be involved in the entire software development lifecycle to ensure the overall quality of NIWA Systems. This includes source code control, code review, change management, configuration management, release management as well as developing and implementing test plans for automated unit and functional tests. You will also be in charge of CICD pipelines management, running multiple AWS tools and configuring metrics and analytics systems. We need someone who can see the next step in DevOPs and take NIWA where we need to go.
What you will bring:
To be successful in this role you will have:
• Good knowledge of AWS
• Great knowledge of Azure cloud services
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code (e.g. Terraform)
• Experience of configuring and maintaining DevOps tools – SonarQube, GitLab, Jenkins
• Interest and ability to learn new things and solve problems
• Experience with managing containers in Kubernetes, developer laptops and cloud hosted
• Experience as a software engineer or systems engineer working with online systems and services
What we will offer:
• Varied, challenging and important work with talented colleagues in an organisation devoted to environmental science.
• A high performing organisation with a focus on employee development and wellbeing
• Generous leave entitlements and employee benefits
• Interesting work, supportive team and great work/life balance
• Free carparking and vibrant Viaduct location
